You really don't have to. None-the-less, I find it kinda flattering.

I don't mean to be snarky. But remember that guy who died from ebola? My friend said she'd "pray for him" before he died. And he did die. So... does that mean that "God" doesn't care? Hm, something to think about.

No, it means that it was his time to die. God cares about everyone. He doesn't like for anyone to suffer. Something else to think about, maybe death was God's way of setting him free from that disease.

Something ELSE to think about, why would God put the disease on him in the first place? Or allow the disease to get him? He didn't want to die! Why the hell would a god who loved his people want them to suffer through diseases and then die?

Life sucks, and bad things happen because of it. A lot of crap happens in this world because of sin. When humans first sinned (Genesis 3), that opened the door for all kinds of horrible things to happen. Disease is one of those things. God didn't plan for any of this, it wasn't God's doing. It was human's. When we messed up, we messed the world up. That's why horrible things happen.

Yes, but why would God make humans to be so sinful? Why couldn't he have made them good? And disease was not created by humans or their doing. It comes from the natural world. I'm not going to blame myself, you, our ancestors or anyone around us for the diseases' creation.

He gave us free will, to choose right over wrong. He wanted us to choose Him on our own. If He hadn't, we'd be just a bunch of brainless robots, incapable of real love.

That doesn't make sense. We could still be brainless robots incapable of love and still make mistakes. "God" has given us the choice to make the right decisions, but if he really was concerned for us he would stop you from opening a world of hate instead of not lifting a finger when you do so.

If we had no free will, we'd do everything God wanted us to. Think about playing with a doll. That doll doesn't move or speak outside of how you want it to. If God didn't give us free will, we'd be just a bunch of lifeless dolls, and how much love can a doll give? None, because you MAKE that doll love you and MAKE that doll do want you want. God knows/knew we'd make mistake, that's why He gave us the guidelines in the Bible so we'll know right from wrong. He's not going to make us do anything, because He wants us to choose.

Leafy, the wonderful leaf who doesn't set rules. Don't pray to a restricting god who sets rules for me, when I don't believe in him.. Pray to a leaf who has no rules but encourages being nice for me.

I read "pay" instead of "pray" the first time.

Then I did a double take.

Quick question.
If the person has a different deity than you, would you pray to their deity for them or would you pray to your own?

That sounds rather disrespectful. Instead of simply praying to, say, a flying golden horse deity the person may worship, you pray to your own deity and completely disregard their own beliefs. You could simply say something like "Look, I don't believe in you at all (insert name here), but this person obviously does. So would you be able to watch over them?".

Then why would that deity listen to me? I pray to my God, because He is the only "deity" I believe in, because He is the only one that's ever done anything for me.

"Then why would that deity listen to me?" Perhaps they care about their followers enough to listen and help.

" I pray to my God, because He is the only "deity" I believe in, because He is the only one that's ever done anything for me." Perhaps that's because you haven't tried looking for others. That aside, just because another deity hasn't done anything for you, doesn't mean it hasn't for them. That is still rather selfish of you.

How am I being selfish if I'm praying for someone else? I don't see the selfishness here.

I'm sorry to hear that.

It's selfish because you can't be considerate to their feelings and beliefs and pray, even half heartedly, to their deity for protection. Instead of respecting them, you just ignore their beliefs and turn to your own. Hence the selfishness.

If I went to India, where they cremate their dead most of their time for religious reasons, and I buried a person instead because of a religious belief I had, they would consider me highly selfish. Same thing, different scenario.

Actually, you can't. Prayer requires introspection.

Not really. If I ask God to look after the poor and broken hearted, then I've just prayed for an abundance of people at one time.

If one assumes that God is benevolent, he already IS looking after them. Meaning that praying for them in this matter accomplishes nothing. The form of prayer I believe in relies on introspection, meaning that rather than your above example where you ask God to look after those less fortunate you would contemplate how you could help them yourself.

Depends on your definition of "prayer." After all, Buddhists pray and they don't necessarily believe in any higher power.

Is there anything you need prayed over for you? I just feel a little guilty asking for one if I don't give in return. ^^

First let me say, this is one of the best stamps I've seen. It's absolutely true, you don't have to know someone because God knows them and knows how to help even if the asker isn't sure what to ask for in particular.

But for me I just need some higher help to learn to trust Him better than I apparently do. So many times that I've seen something, be it in the Bible or on those advertisement boards beside the road, constantly saying 'trust God' that I wonder. ^^;
