What Would Jane Do? by suburbanbeatnik What Would Jane Do? by suburbanbeatnik
In keeping with the Austen theme of August, here's a card I did for a friend after watching "Becoming Jane." The caption inside reads in flowing script, "What would Jane do?" For surely her novels bear all the answers to all the dilemmas in the world!

You are brilliant at drawing, so much portrayed and you didn't even use colour!

Kudos given where kudos due. Just one question, why did you title it What Would Jane Do?? Just curious.

It's a play on "WWJD"-- or what would Jesus do. What would Jane do? XD

Yes, but are you asking as if you are the girl in that picture and asking herself "What would Jane do in this situation?" Or is it just for the pun?

Ha! I love the style of this--in pen, and with the boarder. Very pretty.

Such a lovely little scene. I love the world of Jane Austen. She was an amazing novelist and the world in which she lived is a very interesting case study!

I love all the little details in this drawing. You have captured the style of the age to perfection!

Of course, I was thinking of the BBC "Pride and Prejudice" from 1995- the costumes from that show were pretty amazing!

How lovely! Have you seen "Ms. Austen Regrets" on Masterpeice? I quite like it although I came in about halfway through and was therefore kinda lost.

No, I haven't! I haven't caught any of the latest Austen Masterpiece theater shows. Maybe I can find bittorrents of them somewhere...

with that smirk hiding at the corner of her mouth she looks like she's drawing him in (and he looks the willing victim!). I love regency men's wear *sigh* what I wouldn't do for a man in a cravat, and of course the regency cleavage is always fun too...(possibly that's what's drawing him in?)

You are so right! Regency men's clothes are incredibly flattering- that is, as long as you don't have a figure like the Prince Regent's. I'm not so crazy about the women's clothes of the period, but with clothes that simple you really have to have all the details down perfect. (And yes, it is the young lady's corseted bosom that is drawing him in.) :D

By the way, have you checked out the new Austen movies on Masterpiece Theater? How are they?

Yes, I know, such a vague comment. But I like your style -- very recognizable to me now -- and the way you set it up on the card format.

So there. *grins*
