Welcome to La Mode Historique by suburbanbeatnik Welcome to La Mode Historique by suburbanbeatnik
This is the first deviation done for ~LaModeHistorique, the new group moderated by :iconseitou:, :iconkeeganyoung:, :iconkingandrewi: and me! So come by and check it out- we'd love to see you. Fashion nerds rule!

The people showcased in this picture are, clockwise, Philip II of Spain (1550), Fanny Kemble (1850), Giacomo Casanova (1750) and Mary Henrietta Stuart, Princess of Orange (1650). They represent, respectively, the Spanish Renaissance, the antebellum American south, Italian Rococo, and English/Dutch baroque. They're all fascinating people, but I shudder to imagine them in a room together!

So gifted you are! I love your style, and the monochromatic work is fantastic. Great costumes as well, who honestly doesn't love ball gowns and such fashion? Bravo!

Oh lord, this is too great! You are amazing at anatomy. It's great NOT to see some guy's bulging biceps, or other bulging parts which I never really want to see >.>

Have you ever seen the Casanova with Peter O'Toole and David Tennant? Tennant struck me as too scrawny for a Casanova at first, but he shows that it's in the attitude rather than the face. Anyway, if you haven't seen it, go rent it. It's amazing.

Thank you! I'm okay at anatomy, I guess, but I think I need to drop in on some figure drawing classes and brush up my skillz.

I love David Tennant in "Casanova." I wasn't crazy about the costumes, but the script and acting was so awesome I didn't care. It was such a great little movie! I really need to see it again...

It was so frisky, lol. It was a fun movie, but it had some serious elements. Casanova's son turns into a bit of a monster.

Haha, awsome portraits. They all look very mysteriousO_o I love the ornate-ness of it all.

I would totally love to see them stuck in a room together. Now that would be entertainment. Old Casanova there with his come-hither look and Kemble looking like she could take someones eyes out haha.

Awsome, love it. I'm inspired to draw some of this fashion now:)

Well, I knew about the actress part, not so much about the crusading abolitionist part haha. Definately a force to be reckoned with.

I love your description- that would be so hilarious to see! Did you know Fanny Kemble was an English ex-actress who became a crusading abolitionist and writer after she divorced her asshole Georgia plantation owner husband? I would sure hate to cross her, even if she is wearing a crinoline. :D

Sure, anytime you like... he definitely had the dictionary definition of "bedroom eyes," didn't he? Way better looking than poor old Heath Ledger, IMO.

I will most certainly be back with a request on a piece of my dear Casanova. I simply love history, actually I'm studying history and art history at the university. There are so many interesting people and events throughout history!

There was some wierdness when I posted the pic- it didn't show up in my gallery or my main page for six hours or so. *shrugs*

Yes, and those mid 17th century gowns really could make a girl look good. Here's the original painting that inspired my sketch... [link]

Actually, he's eyeing Mary, Princess of Orange. (My mistake- I changed the list of names of counter-clockwise to counter-clockwise because it was confusing. Oops!) Yes, I take commissions... when would you like a pic of Jefferson or the Comte?
