The Dressmaker's Apprentice by suburbanbeatnik The Dressmaker's Apprentice by suburbanbeatnik
:iconseitou: has been encouraging me to upload more pictures to my account, so here's a sketch I did recently. The girl depicted is the heroine of the project mentioned here- [link] - a story involving the dashing yet immature Prince Frederick, and his powerful and dangerous family.

It's 1730, and the young lady- a dressmaker's apprentice- is dressed for a ball in a mantua of cream satin, over the dome-shaped hoop of the period. Her gown features pagoda sleeves and an embroidered stomacher, and although her hair is unpowdered, she wears her hair in the French tête-de-mouton style. Early rococo fashions were actually quite pretty, even though you don't see them as often.
