Steampunk Girl by suburbanbeatnik Steampunk Girl by suburbanbeatnik
Here's a character design for an upcoming Facebook application, set in a steampunk apocalyptic world. The game designers are really excited about this game, and so am I!

Drawn with Copic markers, which are pretty awesome to work with. Any ideas as to what this character should be called?

EDIT (7/2010): Guys, I'm sorry to say that the game has been canceled. Perhaps it may be revisited one day. But it looks pretty much DOA.

Wow, beautiful! I love steampunk in general, but your take on the concept is really great. I especially like the little deelyboppers in her hair (or are they stray curls?) and the fact that her skirt is perpetually hiked up. You'll post an announcement or something once the Facebook app goes up, right? :D

You bet we will announce it! :)

Thanks, I'm very pleased with how the design came out. I think the things in her hair are probably pieces of rebar wrapped around with brass wire.

Rosamund (Rosie)
Sarah + cool steam punk last name.

I like it! This is very similar to a design I've been thinking of for a while (A steam punk seamstress.)

You know you're awesome, you know the picture is awesome, but I'll tell you something you don't know. I'm fixated on her thighs. Perfection.

Thank you! I was trying to give her a more realistic body type, because I really hate all those manga drawings of women with ginormous tits, no hips and long, boy-like spaghetti legs.

Yes, it took me forever to comment, but wonderful work! Ah, you too with the Coptic markers -- seems to be the fad with some of my student artists!

You mean Copic markers, don't you? They're Japanese, not Egyptian, after all... ;P

They're pretty awesome, as alcohol markers go- so much better than Prismacolors. The colors are richer and less tacky looking, and they blend really nicely. I can see why so many people are over the moon about 'em. :)

Gah! That is a killer outfit. I like the name Miranda- from The Tempest. I dunno, it's an apocalyptic world, so- "Oh brave new world! That has such people in it!!"

XD Maybe! But throwing out names are fun regardless. Why do you think people are always harassing pregnant mothers about what they'll name their kids? Everyone seems to like the thought of being able to say "I came up with that name for that thing!"

We've just started developing the game, so don't expect it for a while. This is actually the very first piece of concept art that's been done for it. When it's finally launched, I'll make a big announcement here and everywhere else. :)

Thank you! I was originally planning to have the light brown shirt be a shirt, with the corset worn over it, but maybe it would work better as a bolero jacket? Hmmm....

Oh I like this. Kinda different from the rest of your work. Her face is absolutely gorgeous. I try to figure out how you draw faces, because they always turn out so good. Your characters always look so alive. That is inspiring!
