Steampunk Girl by suburbanbeatnik Steampunk Girl by suburbanbeatnik
Here's a character design for an upcoming Facebook application, set in a steampunk apocalyptic world. The game designers are really excited about this game, and so am I!

Drawn with Copic markers, which are pretty awesome to work with. Any ideas as to what this character should be called?

EDIT (7/2010): Guys, I'm sorry to say that the game has been canceled. Perhaps it may be revisited one day. But it looks pretty much DOA.

Random Name Generator SAAAAYSSS

Giovanna
Bunny
Joanne
Hellen
Julia

Hahaha, I know, I cheat but when you're naming characters in bulk (like I was two nights ago) Random Name Generators can be AMAZING tools.

Random Name Generators are fun- but I think we'll have to avoid Joanne because that's actually my name. :D

Good plan, then. I hadn't known or I wouldn't have suggested it. Ha. I might remember but I'm AWFUL with names, if it wasn't for icons I would never know who anyone is.

Hot damn, this is epic! And it's ironic because recently I've been coming across multitudes of good names. But now I haven't the foggiest which to advise D : Maybe Jezebel? Lavinia? Imogen? Alethea? Viviana? Gemma? Reyna? Yvette? I really like Eurydice (though I'm thinkin Imogen...).

I seem to be going for the more obscure names, should it be something more old-school your thinking.

I'll throw all these names the way of the lead designer- it shall depend on what he and the team think is best. Thanks for the suggestions- and I'm so pleased you described this as "epic." This is just a basic costume- her outfit is going to get much more complicated and mechanical!

Heh, glad I could help in the least! And if this is only supposed to get more complicated, I'm going to have to whip out a thesaurus for more elaborate meanings of epic D :

If it's an apocalyptic world, then I think a name like Pandora would work nicely ^^ Honestly, though, I just think Pandora is a really pretty name.

And I totally want that corset and top *_*

Louisa's a good name too. I'm quite pleased with her hairstyle- I was going for a vaguely Asian-inspired mechanical look. :)

I love her costume, it looks great! ^^
One name I thought of, maybe, is Amy. I don't know what to call her though. ;)

That name actually did occur to me... But it'll have to be the lead designer who decides, I think.

Not sure, I need to talk to the designer. What do you think of the costume?

I really like it 'cause yeah, it's steampunk. I guess only harlots would wear such long skirts back then but IF it's steampunk it's not slutty anymore. Which is cool, it's... retro/modern. And boots and gloves, nice, and that thing around her neck, I mean the way her cleavage is revealed. Cool! ;)

Yay- so glad you like! The shoulder holster is also modern, but the story is set in 2008 (in an alternate world). Yeah, I'm quite pleased with the high-necked but low-cut shirt she's wearing. I dream of the day when my designs can be used for cosplay (since I hate sewing myself). :D

Ahahhahaahh who wouldn't like to sew her own costumes, but yeah, I'm too lazy to learn YET another art... ;P

Fabulous work. The costume design is excellent, and i really like the drawing style you work with. As for the name, i say 'Rose'... might be a bit twee for a redhead to have that name, but i personally think it suits her.

Thank you! It was modelled very loosely on a James Tissot painting, and on the bustle skirts worn by Winona Ryder in the 1992 "Dracula"... :D

I love Aiko Ishioka's costume designs. She did great work in "The Cell" too... I saw her talk at my art school some years ago, and she was so awesome! :)
