Prince Humperdinck by suburbanbeatnik Prince Humperdinck by suburbanbeatnik
I like "The Princess Bride," but I love Chris Sarandon's performance as Prince Humperdinck, the scheming, foppish heavy. He really was incredibly handsome- and he has absolutely no shame in taking the goofiest roles, which is pretty endearing. He played everything from Jesus Christ to Jerry the vampire in "Fright Night," and he was also Jack Skellington in "The Nightmare Before Christmas." I also didn't know he was the son of a Greek-American restaurant owner from West Virginia. He sure seems like a pretty quirky guy.

Anyway, I had fun doing this, because I just love drawing scheming fops. The costuming in "The Princess Bride" is actually not bad; Sarandon's character wears a number of nice mid-15th century tunic doublets, with the correct high mandarin collar, pleated front, full sleeves and fur trim. Repeated viewings of "Bride" have made me more sympathetic to Humperdinck, as I would like to kill off Buttercup too. I can't remember a female protagonist so spectacularly useless; she's the personification of the "too stupid to live" romance heroine that is the bane of the romance genre. It's hard to see what Westley sees in her...

So, it was nice to draw a character from a movie where I didn't have to give them a major historically accurate makeover. This is not actually a costume worn in the movie, but it is similar to several of them. Humperdinck wears a fur-trimmed red brocade overtunic with hanging sleeves, a golden undertunic with a high collar, and a nice belt with a dagger (all the better to stab Buttercup).

This is another attempt to blend Prismacolor colored pencils with Prismacolor alcohol markers.

Princess Bride fanart! Yay!!!!!!!! I love that movie. And you're right about the costumes; even though the film is extremely silly and cheesey, the costumes are surprisingly nice. I love Humperdinck

And no wonder the actor seems so familiar... I had no clue he played in Fright Night o_o *watches too many films from the '80s* Well... that explains that.

I know, don't the costumes make the ones in "Knight's Tale" look worse than ever?

He was so great in Fright Night! That's how a vampire should be... not a sparkly creampuff like that dude in Twilight. Chris Sarandon is so talented. //melts

I haven't seen A Knight's Tale, thankfully, but it's a nightmare from what I've heard.

Fright Night and The Lost Boys are right up there on my list of favorite '80s horror flicks :XD: The more I hear about Twilight, the more I want to read it, just to see how bad it really is. Because I can't understand how such a poorly written, cliche story can become so insanely popular. On the other hand, if that's what sells these days, then it shouldn't be too hard to throw together a story and get rich :plotting:

What made me walk out of the theater was the corporate branding of the armor (the Nike swoosh), and that was played for laffs. It didn't help I was reading a lot about Nike sweatshops at the time. I'm sure it's on Youtube, but there's better ways to spend your time. Like watching "Wives and Daughters"!

OMG, "Lost Boys" was one of my favorite films ever when I was in junior high. I thought Keifer Sutherland was so hot, though I'm not sure why. "Fright Night" is just awesome. However, I hear they're remaking it, which makes me sad...

I can send you "Twilight" if you like. I have a spare copy lying around. It helps if you drink a lot of beer (to numb yourself), grit your teeth and read the whole thing in a sitting.

I know... how about take "Twilight" and put it IN SPACE! I bet that would sell. And look, I'm giving this idea to you for free! ;P

They're remaking Fright Night?! Noooooooooooo! They're going to ruin it >O< They'll probably try to force in every special effect imaginable >___> Well, at least they're not remaking The Lost Boys. Then I'd really be mad.

:XD: I can just borrow the book from my friend's little sister. She was the one who first told me about Twilight... or rather, warned me about it.

Sad thing is, that's exactly what they did with Jumanji >_____>;;; And I think sci-fi once showed a vampire film that was set in space 9_9;;

Chris Sarandon's voice makes me purr. He'd be flattered with this little puppy.

I saw this in my inbox and started chanting "Humperdinck" like Valerie, Miracle Max's wife.

As a fan of the movie and the book, this totally made my day. He was always one of my favorites and you've definitely captured him!
