Peggy Shippen and Major Andre by suburbanbeatnik Peggy Shippen and Major Andre by suburbanbeatnik
A cartoon of Peggy Shippen (aka Mrs Benedict Arnold) and Major John Andre (General Howe's spymaster), done for my agent's 4th of July promotion. As you know, nothing quite says Independence Day like two notorious British spies!

This is something of a companion piece for "The Sultana," a guest comic I did for Lora Innes' The Dreamer webcomic. The first page can be found here: [link]

Stunningly beautiful, so much is going on! Ah their outfits always amaze me with their finery and how polished they appear in their everyday clothing. Beautiful and thank you so much for these artworks, also for knowing The Dreamer, it is fantastic!

OH MY GOD!!!! Oh, what a scandal this was, so to speak! Even we today in some historical circles still talk about this one! Peggy was such a... she was so free with herself! ;) LOL
Oh, I HAVE to show this one to a couple gals. :) They'd get a kick out of it. :)

Miss Shippen was such a naughty girl, certainly!

Anyway, I'm glad you like it-- I had a lot of fun drawing it. :)

Hehehehe... yes, yes, Peggy is an incredibly naughty haughty girl. Oh, the men she sacked. tsk tsk. :)
With Peggy, in a manner of speaking, it's always enjoyable. She's great material for conversation. ;)

My, my, Miss Shippen, what evil are you up to now? Turning our greatest field general against us?

Now I'm imagining her as a super-villain! Which would be kind of a cool pic... :D

Didn't Andre had like black hair instead of brown?

Did he? I always thought it was brown for some reason. Do you have a source?

Probably from his background but not like what the cartoon portray him.

I was wondering if you read about his hair color in a book, and what book it was. I'd like to know if I got it wrong... I just guessed his hair color was brown.

absolutely love it! The detail, particularly in the eppaulets is wonderful! The funny thing is, Andre and Shippen were once lovers, so it makes this picture even better! :-D

Re: Shippen and Andre's relationship, it depends whom you ask... Some people claim they were lovers, but others say they were just friends. I personally like the ambiguity. ;P

So, either BFFs or bangin' headboards... only her hairdresser knows for sure! :D

lol he was her hairdresser! When Andre planned the large ball for Sir William Howe before the British evacuated Philidelphia he didn't take Peggy as his date, but he DID do her hair!

Well, I know he designed her hairstyle, but did he actually put her hair up with his own hands?

I'm curious, what media did you use to colour this with? I know markers/inks but what kind? :)

A lovely scene. Very gorgeous.
