Mme. de Montespan study by suburbanbeatnik Mme. de Montespan study by suburbanbeatnik
Here's a sketch for a planned painting of Athenais de Montespan, suggested by ; she was a notorious courtesan, mistress of Louis XIV, and was also rumored to be a satanist, witch and poisoner. (Perhaps it was her red hair?) I've never actually painted a seventeenth century gown before, so I'm looking forward to the final!

*nods* Yes, I like this one much. The gown's folds and her stance as a balanced design (together with the cat) add much to the appeal for me.

I absolutely love the cat and the wicked expression. Possibly not in that order.
