Mad Men- Joan and Guy by suburbanbeatnik Mad Men- Joan and Guy by suburbanbeatnik
Last week's episode of "Mad Men" was a doozy, what with Jamie Thomas King's character, Guy MacKendrick, losing a foot in the already notorious lawnmower incident. Christina Hendricks did a pretty awesome job as Joan. And to think I actually disliked Joan the first season...

Anyway, I hope Guy returns, although he probably won't. I wonder how the office will fare without Joan.

You know, I actually planned on doing a whole sheet of characters from this episode, but that didn't work out. It took hours just drawing these two. Ah well, maybe next time...

(Did you know King played Thomas Wyatt in "The Tudors"? I didn't recognize him at first, without the hair and the doublet.)

I thought the lawnmower scene was pretty funny. The only funny thing that Lois' actress has ever done.

Hmm, I wouldn't know, I haven't seen her other work. Anyway, I hope you like the drawings. :)

I do like them- they're very good!

Lois' actress has done a few drama, but she predominantly does comedies that she's usually painfully unfunny in, so it's nice to see her do something genuinely funny for once.

Thank you, I'm glad you like! :)

I like the scene in itself, but I have some issues with how it fits into the series as a whole (but that's a blog entry for another day). I know the actress was on Mad TV, which had its moments, but was more unfunny than not. Eh well, it's a rent check...

The thing about Mad Men is that it goes very slowly, because so much happens in the first eight minutes when its nowhere near halfway. And I was pretty excited about the end of 'Guy Walks Into An Advertising Agency'.

Betty is definitely a frustrating character, and to some extent I agree with someone who said "the show flatlines when it spends too much time away from the office."

Bring back Joan! She's really compelling, even when she's awful.

August feels like a looong way away, doesn't it? I wonder what they're going to do! (I watched an interview with Matthew Weiner and it seems like even he's not sure where the plot will go.)

Hmmm, I'm not sure what I think of the new season. There have been a few good episodes, but I really miss Paul and Sal. The new guys at the office suck, and not in a good way either. :/

Joan looks incredible. I love her nose, and I think you captured her perfectly.

And Guy... YUM.

I need to get back into Mad Men. Just not enough time!

Thanks! I'm glad with how Joan turned out-- and I'm glad my feelings about Guy are shared. LOL!

You can catch up later, I'm sure, when you're less busy. :)

I wasn't so hot on this weeks episode, but I feel that anything after John Deer-ing someone's foot off is going to feel a little pale.

I liked the last episode a lot. Although inquiring minds want to know the fate of Guy "Footless" MacKendrick...

Ah, Weiner! Have you ever read Kristin Ament's "Attention Deficit Theatre"?

Well, he can't work. The other British guys made that clear. Apparently the inability to golf makes it impossible for one to work...

I have not. Good?

Yeah, that's what Mr. Sheffield says. I'm still hoping the actor shows up for another cameo. :P

The AD Theatre is a hilarious spoof of MM. You should check it out! [link]

Oh, I remember when I posted my first piece of Mad Men fanart in July '07. It was the only thing up there for the show! Things have really changed, and I'm glad. :)

Woohoo! I love that show! You did an amazing job I can totally see the essence of the characters in the way you captured them! Bravo!!

Thank you! It was pretty difficult. Man, you'd think capturing the likeness of attractive actors would be easy...

Something about Guy's face was bugging me, so I worked on it a bit and uploaded the changes. What do you think?

I think it's harder to draw attractive actors because we focus more on their features than we do normal people so it's much easier to see the inconsistencies.

I think the updated Guy is fantastic, but seriously, it was awesome before, because you are so talented!! If you plan on doing any more Mad Men stuff I'd love to see you do Don and Betty!

Thanks! I'm glad you like the update. I'm probably alone in wanting to see his character again, but I have a weakness for characters like that-- damaged/traumatized golden boys. I keep wondering what's going to happen to him. :P

Actually, I was thinking of drawing Duck and Peggy next... LOL!

Poor Guy and his foot! I know he's a fictional character and all, but I felt pretty bad for him.

His face in the drawing was bugging me, so I reworked it a bit. I just posted the revision. What do you think?

(Haha, I'm a horrible person for caring more about the dress...)

I think his nose is spot-on, and I can definitely see him around the eyes. Gosh but he is handsome.
