League of Rogues: Seduction by suburbanbeatnik League of Rogues: Seduction by suburbanbeatnik
The sixth in a series of commissions I did for Lauren Diana Smith, aka :iconnovemberstar88:. She's writing a series of Regency-set romance novels, featuring a group of rakish but loveable young men known as "The League of Rogues." In this scene from her debut novel, the roguish aristocrat Godric attempts to seduce his virtuous captive Emily in the library. A can be imagined, she's torn between her desire to escape and her intense attraction to him.

Would you really be attracted to someone who keeps you captive? I was wondering while reading the description.

(Of course, I know that many novels use this trope.)

It's called the Abduction is Love trope. [link] It's not my favorite love & romance trope ever, but it's very popular. (It's really quite fascinating, going through the trope page and looking at all the examples, including tons of anime and manga, and even a few Star Wars novels.)

The story also falls into the "Match Made in Stockholm" trope since it uses the abduction plot, mostly, for romantic comedy (the "Stockholm Syndrome" trope is used for drama).

Tv tropes is such a fun and informative site! Thanks for the links.

Though yes, I think I prefer when the woman is not held captive or, generally, in a position of inferiority :P

I think the idea is, in theory, for the man to end up grovelling and submitting to the woman. Battle of the sexes and all that. At least in theory... I totally understand where you're coming from, though.
