Frollo by suburbanbeatnik Frollo by suburbanbeatnik
Yes, this is yet another Disney villain. I figured I should give Frollo from "Hunchback of Notre Dame" a whirl- why not give the old guy a set of more authentic 15th century clothing? (Well- more or less authentic. Most of my details are from "English Costume from the Early Middle Ages Through the Sixteenth Century" by Iris Brooke.) He's wearing another chaperon, like my Richard III [link] , and a somewhat old-fashioned robe (by 1485 standards) with long flowing sleeves.

Gosh that looks amazing!
And he looks less evil in your style. Love the sketchyness on him and also the new outfit you gave him. Keep it up!

It would be awesome if Der Glöckner was recreated in Live-Action form, like Les Miserables did!

The movie would have been better if they had used your version.
I'm not a big fan of the way Disney makes the eyelids dark to indicate evilness. It just looks dumb.

Chaperons are awesome hats, and very underrated. (Though Michael York rocked a fab chaperon in the 1968 Romeo and Juliet.)

Yeah, the tiny pupils and the eyeliner... how very Goth, eh?

Sweet! I love how his post echoes that of the wealthy commissioners of altarpieces, of the Renaissance, and of course, have themselves, the pious, added in.

Yeah . . . thank goodness Disney puts an actual pious man of God, the priest, as a counter to Frollo.

Well, you know Disney has to play it safe with their demographic. I'm glad they didn't make Frollo a priest though.

The scene where Esmeralda is praying is so beautiful. I love that movie so much...

Lol, my grandmother took me to see that movie. I cried most of the time, and kept on running out. I don't think I saw this character in one of his musical parts of the movie until later. Still scary!

Wow, I saw the movie when I was 19 or so, so I was in no danger of running and crying out of the theater. ;P I watched it again recently, and it holds up really well. It was one of the best movies to come out of Disney in the '90s, IMO.

FAVOURITE. DISNEY. VILLAIN. EVER.
*hem* 'Scuse me.

I really love your realistic take on this character, especially the super-intense eyes...like something out of a Byzantine mosaic or something. Your attention to historically-accurate costume is admirable.

You know, I really can picture Frollo in a Byzantine costume.. something just tells me that he would love to split theological hairs over the nature of the Holy Trinity!

Ugh, thank you for getting rid of that hideous striped hat he wore throughout the film. XD

I really like your interpretation of him here, especially with the more realistic outfit. Frollo is indeed one of my favorite Disney villains... I had a tiny figureine of him that used to sit on the dashboard of my car! (I have since sold that car, however, but will probably stick it on whatever car I end up getting next.)

That's so cool! Yes, I'm glad to hear other people hated that hat as well. It was like a chaperon as designed by Barney the dinosaur, wasn't it?
