Cyan's Song by suburbanbeatnik Cyan's Song by suburbanbeatnik
This is for the late lamented fanfic "Cyan's Song"... the first fic I ever read that made any impression on me whatsoever. It used to be very big within various Star Wars communities back about 10 years ago, but now it's hard to find. It's a romance with Boba Fett! It's not to everyone's taste, since it's in the style of a bodice ripper from the good old days of Valerie Sherwood and Rebecca Brandewyne, but I was thoroughly entertained by it.

So here's my tribute to the story, featuring the heroine Cyan, a preternaturally hot bounty huntress, and her mysterious Mandalorian paramour. Lo! What pensive thoughts preoccupy this amorous couple, as they gaze off into the horizon? There was a sequel out there, but unfortunately it can't be found, and the author (Tasha Amos or miss tori), has likewise vanished. The first part can be read here: [link]

I decided to experiment with something that wasn't my usual style. I was influenced by Korean game designer Maggi in the style of the characters; I used Copics on Holbein paper, with Copic tech pens and a Sakura white ink marker.

The original sketch can be seen here: [link]

Hi! I'm the author of the Fanfic in question and this is absolutely beautiful! I can't believe someone so talented liked my stuff enough to make something so gorgeous from it. I'm in awe of you. Amazing work.

Is that you, Miss Tori? Wow, that's awesome you finally saw this! Is there anywhere I can read the "Cyan's Song" sequel? Are you still writing?

Yes, it's me :) Sorry it took so long, a friend of mine from the old sites I used to frequent directed me to it. I'm sorry about the sequel but I lost all of my old work when my old computer died, sorry. I'm not writing anymore, I've decided to focus on costuming and art instead. I'm not a quarter as good as you are though! You're seriously amazing.

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that. That must have been gutting. I guess it happened a while ago?

Would you perhaps be interested in buying the original "Cyan's Song" piece? Since you're the author, I'd be willing to give you a deal... that is, if you want it. If not, that's cool. I'm pretty pleased to hear that you were able to see it, and that you like it so much! :)

Yeah it happened a few years before the second prequel movie came out, and that changed my canon so much that I didn't think I could re-write it in anyway that made sense, so I just let it be. Thank you very much for the offer of the original, how much would you want for it. You can Email me at miss_tori_l@yahoo.com if you'd rather not discuss prices here.

Thank you! I just emailed you. :)

I'm really sorry that you lost your story-- no matter how long ago it was, it still sucks. I still remember stories I lost back in high school... :/

Hey, yeah, I was going to say, "Your style changed!" But I think it is great when people can do different types of styles. It looks good. I like how you do the shading with both marker & the hatched lines. I like the design of the woman's outfit; it's really neat and definitely looks futuristic.

Ooooo, so Boba Fett gets his own romantic fan fic, eh? Nice! The lad deserves it...he had a hard life in the movies. (Plus I always thought his outfit was super-cool. I mean, heck, I even have a Boba Fett figure in one of my hutch-cabinets. *Laughs*)

So, back to the style...you based the style of a Korean game designer named Maggi? Never heard of that person! Now I'm curious...I'll have to look it up. The only Korean artist I'm familiar with is Hyung Tae Kim; he was a big influence to me.

Thanks! It was hard not to make it steampunk and put her in a corset. XD

Yes, Fett is a really interesting character, and I find the huge fandom that's built up around him to be... also very interesting. He really attracts a lot of obsessives. Go figure, huh? Some amazing costume work was done for his character. I love all the detail that was put into it, but it still looks wearable and useable.

Maggi is awesome! She's my favorite game concept artist hands down. You can see her work here: [link]

Wow, Maggi's designs are amazing. The clothing she comes up with are really neat! I think my favourite game artist is Akihiko Yoshida (he did the character designs for Final Fantasy 12, which I believe are the best designs of all the FF games ever made.)

Ah, Steampunk...so fun to draw. I'll have a couple of Steampunk artwork up in the near future. (From the story based around my characters Schuyler & Faythe.)

So Fett has a huge fan base, eh? I always thought he was a cool character.

So glad you dig Maggi, she's pretty awesome!

Fett's fanbase is huuuuuge. Have you ever seen Robot Chicken's Star Wars parodies? The second one nails the obsessive nature of Boba Fett fans pretty well.. ;)

Yeah, Maggi's style of artwork & her designs are awesome. I'm glad you told me about her. :) Everytime I see an artists with unique & detailed designs, it just inspires me to work harder on my stuff. (Speaking of which, I really need to get the show on the road with my artwork...I've kind of been slacking off.)

Oh, no, I've never seen Robot Chicken before. What is that?

It's a show that's on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network... I don't like them all the time, but sometimes they're hilarious. Here's a few clips... enjoy! [link]

Ha ha, thanks for the link. That was hilarious. How the heck did they do that? They did find Star Wars figures or make them? Either case, it looked funny. Darth Vader did to Jar-Jar what I wished he would have done in the very beginning. (Jar Jar was so annoying...I'm glad he didn't have a role in Episode III.) I totally burst out laughing at a lot of parts...especially with Vader having a cup of tea & Luke smoking. Also, Boba Fett was so out of character.

Wasn't it hilarious? And it was only bits and pieces! If you get the chance, you should check out all of episodes 1 and 2. They're really demented.

WOW.... Being a huge Star Wars geek myself, I have to say this is truly wonderful! The beauty of the girl, along with the complete accuracy of Boba Fett's armor makes this a wonderful drawing!

Well done, as usual!

Thank you! Yeah, Fett's armor was tricky... that is one detailed costume. I have new respect for the costume designer of "Empire" to come up with it. :D

I've heard, and this may be of some interest to you, that Lucas is planning on doing a show that takes place during the "Great Jedi Purge" and has to do with the "Rise of a masked figure". Now of course everyone thinks that it's Vader, but it's not. It's Bobba Fett.
None of the normal characters will be in it (i.e. Vader, Obi-Wan, Luke, ect)
Appearently it's supposed to be Deadwood meets the Soprano's in the Star Wars Universe. Networks still appear to be fighting over it, but Lucas has appearently said "I've made the kids show (clone wars) now i'm going to make the adult show." I don't know any more details that that, sadly, so we'll all have to wait in breathless anticipation for it.

Just thought I'd pass that piece of info on. :) Again AWESOME job!!!!

I heard about the TV show when I was on Wookiepedia! That is exciting. I hope they get Daniel Logan to play Fett.

Isn't it supposed to come out next year? I bet there's going to bet plenty of info about it at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego!

And thanks again! :D

Wow, Boba Fett romance fan fiction. I really like the character of Boba Fett, but I have never read a fanfic... ever. I wonder if there is Yoda romance fanfic. XD He's actually my favorite. I think it would be scary.

This illustration is cool though. If Cyan's supposed to be hot, I really think you really captured it here. n.n; I wonder what dear Boba Fett is thinking there.

Thanks! I had a lot of fun drawing this. I was afraid Fett would seem out of place next to a stripperific anime chick, but it worked out pretty well, I think.

I bet there IS Yoda romance fiction out there. And you're right, it would be scary. *hides*

I actually wrote my own Boba Fett fanfic after I read "Cyan's Song," except it was a parody of cheesy '70s-'80s sci-fi. It was called "Lola Luscious and the Doom Machine," and you can tell from the title how serious I was trying to be. [link]
