Callie and Ralston by suburbanbeatnik Callie and Ralston by suburbanbeatnik
Callie and Ralston from Sarah MacLean's upcoming Regency romance, "Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake," being released by Avon/HarperCollins in 2010. With Callie's hyacinth-blue ball gown with Renaissance-inspired trimmings and Ralston's riding costume, they're partying like it's 1820!

Sarah's website (with my artwork!) can be seen here: [link]

Your colouring style looks so easy and natural. How much does it take to you to do a piece like this?

Well, this is one of my more "watercolory" pieces. I'm still using acrylic, but I use less paint and I'm painting on thick watercolor paper-- also I didn't coat the drawing with matte medium.

Eek, I haven't been on DA in forever, so I'm behind on commenting on all the great artworks that are in my message center.

So...I am happy to see this 1820's style of clothing drawn by you. It looks fabulous. I love her whole getup, from her dress to her hair style to the hair accessories. I sometimes wish people today dressed like this for fancy occassions...I'd totally wear such fashions. (Although my boyfriend would probably dislike it.) *Laughs*

Hey, good to see you! Oh, I know the feeling of being behind. For example, I'm answering these comments over a month after they've been made... :P

I'm so glad you like it! This was a fun job, that's for sure. Speaking of dressing up, are there any Regency reenactor groups in your area? I know there's a number of them here in LA.

This is really very attractive, it's rare to find a style that appears loose yet actually shows details clearly and has highly expressive facial expressions.
