Bunnie Antoinette by suburbanbeatnik Bunnie Antoinette by suburbanbeatnik
So, technically I really shouldn't have this on my dA site, as this is in my portfolio. But... I decided to make an exception, as I knew you guys would really enjoy it. I did this last summer for a friend's gallery showing, and I sold it a few months ago. It features an adorably fluffy bunny version of Marie Antoinette proclaiming "Let them eat carrot cake!" Her enormous dress, inspired by French fashion plates from the 1770s, is garnished liberally with her favorite vegetable, and her little fan features rabbits frolicking in a pastoral Watteau-like setting. The medium is light acrylic washes, painted on watercolor paper, on which I had photocopied the original drawing.

Bunnie Antoinette by ~suburbanbeatnik is absolutely stunning! It's quite a clever twist on our traditional idea of Marie Antoinette. ( Suggested by CassandraJames and Featured by cooley )

You are awesome in colored pencils!
How do you get the colored pencil to show so nicely in the scan? I always hate how they look after I scan them!

Oh, because I'm paranoid... and I'd still like to keep a line between "art I do for fun" and "art I do for work." The original plan was that my dA stuff would be separate from what I do professionally. I'm still not going to post anything here that's going to be published, or anything that is specifically created to be a promo for the children's book industry; I wouldn't be comfortable. But I think anything else is probably going to be fair game.

Ahaha, you never fail to amuse me!!! I think this is fantastic!!!! It's ever so clever, uhhhhh I'm soaking in my love for it, lol. Just fantastic. Getting to some good part in Mrs. Mantel's novel. Guess Camille and Danton should have thought twice before bringing Robspierre into the revolution! I've barely seen any mention of Couthon, one of Robspierre's closest allies. Strange, but I shall keep reading!!

I got it mostly from plate #3 in this book- [link] - "Grande robe a la francaise and bonnet a la victoire." I also looked at this picture by Moreau le Jeune, which you have probably seen before... [link] ... Anyway, hope that helps! :)

I'll have to add that to my shopping cart! Hm, Stella Blum... isn't she the one who edited "Fashion Plates from Godey's Ladie's Book?" And yes, I have seen that picture many times.

Yes, that book is definitely a must for 18th century geeks! I haven't seen the Godey's Lady's book one, as I'm not into Victorian as much, but I'm sure it's quite nice as well.

And the frou in that Moreau pic is just... awesomely awesome. Words fail me, actually, when I see those panniers.

The lipstick stands out for me for some reason. Probably because it matches the eye color somewhat.

I also love the fan.
