Marching Band: Gimp Squad by StuntzTheDude Marching Band: Gimp Squad by StuntzTheDude
Hope you like. Is our band the only one that calls it a gimp squad? All the injured people who can't march?

As a short bass clarinet player myself, I can't see where I'm going when marching parade block. My neck strap is up all the way, so all I can see is the person in front of me.

Whenever we march parades, we're supposed to raise our hands when we go over or around an obstacle because we aren't allowed to talk.

That's why you have the band parents stand near a pothole and scream out pot hole or stand in the pothole and the band expands

I ran over a field judge during our show last year, called underworld. I sprained my ankle and marched the rest of the show.

This year, luckily we only had a trombone drop out of the block from heat stroke... but she did it twice

i was marching and a colour guard member was twirling her flag too close to me. I tried to tell my band instructer, but he said that she was right. so Mr. A. had us run that part again. that time the colour guard lady hooked her flag on my trombone spit valve and it swung off my slide and hit a tuba player in the head. completely knocking him on his face. She then proceeded to yell at me for being off my mark. she tore the slide off of her flag. The tear was about 2 inches from the rubber stopper at the end of her pole. I stood exactly where I was. and had Mr. A. line everyone up where they should have been. I was 3 feet behind my mark and she was four feet behind hers. The funny part is, is that now she is drum major... #Scaredmuch?

pffffff XD

Last year some kid in our bass clarinet section fainted and in his last moment of consciousness he twisted around and landed on his side so he wouldn't land on his instrument. Dislocated his shoulder.
The same day a flute player fainted ON our band director.

My freshman year, I got the glorious part of landing in EVERY SINGLE POTHOLE in our field, most of which were filled with mud. It was like, "Did she get to her spot?" -splat!- "Yup."

You march on grass?

Yeah I go to a tiny little ghetto school so we can't afford turf, and the grass on our field is patchy because we can't afford to hire someone to take good care of it. :/

We call them "Band Casualties" so far we've had one broken ankle in the trumpet section, a few turned ankles here and there, one broken toe from a sousaphone incident, and the most serious was mine. During a pep band game my friends alto sax mouthpiece and reed stabbed me in the eye and scratched my sclera. I now have slightly blurred vision in that eye. For this I'm grateful since they said I had a chance of going blind.

Ouch that looks like it hurt. Our streets didn't have many potholes, but it did have lots of horse poop, because my band came after the horses in the parade. Now I have a different excuse for why my shoes stink besides the sweat of marching all day.

My friend in drumline, he was bass 3 and he injured his knee, claiming, "I was back marching, then I took an arrow to the knee." So he got demoted into the auxilary pit. I feel bad for him, a 6'3" senior surrounded by freshmen, playing the triangle

We may not cell the gimp squad but we call whatever body part it is gimpy like a leg or arm. Though the best is when two members who had crutches crossed them and said "CRIPPLES UNITE!!"

My buddy Rick dislocated his hip and fractured his femur in 10 places when one of the cargo trailers broke off the hitch and knocked him down and ran him over.

My grandpa called me a gimp. I had, this is gonna sound funny, 4TH GRADERS on my lap the whole Sunday, and the next few days was a disaster among walking. I couldn't "walk" for about 4-5 days.

This past year we had three people in a one hour period do something to themselves...they to this day still don't know what happened. Well at that time, the next day was a parade so we did what any other band would do. We took one of the 3 4x8 platforms we made with huge wheels on them (its actually for the Pit, so we don't have to constantly drag everything out) we had attached metal loops to it so we could strap the instruments down but instead of instruments we bungee-ed 3 chairs on the back and Jimmie rigged the entire thing to our band golf cart and the 3 people rode it and played from it in the parade...lol. It was great! lol
