"Experiment in Painter" is the beginning of a new method (for me) of digital painting using features in Corel Painter. From this post

Basic steps are:

1) cloning the photo, then altering size, resolution, aspect ratio (and/or cropping) and basic photo editing for contrast, saturation and value, applying a blur to get rid of fine details. I also paint over any unwanted parts such as background and sometimes selective moving/altering of body parts or costume. This is where I establish my composition.

2) Save the altered photo and clone it, this time using the "auto-paint" function to mostly obscure everything but the general shapes and locations of features. This last iteration is saved as the "underpainting".

3)I use the altered photo and the original photo as references for re-painting in the specifics by hand directly on the underpainting. These are all single-layer files. When this is finished, I save the final version.
