Study hall had an air of such silence one could hear the soft scratch of pencils and steady breathing of their classmate beside them. Miss Gilmore paced the room, by each table to make sure her pupils stayed focused and quiet, her stern gaze running over each of them.
It was the perfect time for Eloise's antics.
From time to time she would look at Hannah or another one of the girls and make a face, earning stifled laughter from Cordelia and Catherine. Then she would quickly duck her head when a student or the teacher looked her way. At other times she would push a book off the table so it thudded onto the floor, then look at another student near her, earning them a frown from the teacher. The real trickster would snicker smugly under her breath then. P
