There were a couple of guest panels that I wanted to see, but I didn’t leave myself enough time to plan to go by the time I thought maybe it would be worth attending the con for a day. Instead, my awesome friend Pan was able to get a badge for me to attend the con with her on the Sunday so I could still check out what the con had to offer. I had found that some of my favourite local Halloween/horror artists had art booths at the con in Artist Alley so I spent much of the afternoon searching for goodies. I did find some nice jewellery pieces and one figure that I wanted to buy in the dealer’s area. I didn’t get a chance to check out any panels because I was only at the con for a few hours and the day went by in a bit of a blur. Fan Expo is one of the most commercial cons in Canada so the atmosphere is quite different from most of the cons that I attend. There were some impressive exhibits and I may consider attending the con for a day in future years.
Pan and I re-wore our original design Supergirl and Batgirl dresses. It was nice to get a chance to Cosplay again before the end of summer. Fan Expo used to signal the end of the con season for me and the start of back-to-school for the first several years that I attended the con as I went to Fan Expo for the first time back in 2001. The con has grown exponentially since then and there are a lot of negatives to the event. I definitely wouldn’t recommend getting a full weekend pass, but I can still see the benefit of attending Fan Expo for a day because of the large variety of genres that Fan Expo encompasses.
Besides Fan Expo, I got together with my friend Pan last Saturday and we took some Cosplay photos of each other in a park near our house. I decided to wear my China Sherry costume. I’ve been hoping to get some photos of my China Sherry costume from RE6 for well over a year now and with the guns involved with the costume, it’s sort of hard to find a space that’s secluded enough to work with for a photoshoot. The shoot with Pan was lots of fun and we got some great character shots. Thanks to Pan for spending the day with me! I took some photos of her as a Teen Wolf character and that was a neat experience. I’m not much of a photographer, but it was fun to try my hand at it.Now that it’s September, the con season has truly wound down for me. I’m still hoping to do a couple of photoshoots this year. I was planning to do a Tennis Peach shoot as I still don’t really have photos of that costume, but the temperature is set to drop in the next few days and I doubt I’ll be able to arrange for a shoot before it gets too cold. I have a new wig for my Shinku costume so I’m hoping to set up a shoot for that costume. I have zero photos of Shinku that I truly love because the wig has always been a frustration for me (that and squinting in pretty much every outdoor photo that I already have). ~_~ Hopefully I’ll figure out a shoot for that sometime in the next couple of months.
I did just get shoot photos back from Otakuthon last year, the Cosplay Picnic and APOP so I’m really happy to have so many lovely photos to share. I’m finally working my way through my backlog of costumes that I need photos of and it’s nice to finally be catching up with things. Thanks to all the wonderful photographers that I’ve been working with in the last few years! It’s always such a triumph to see nice photos of a costume that I poured lots of blood sweat and tears into!
