This is another one of my forays into the world of Blake's 7; this time all realistic-like. This particular drawing features the character Kerr Avon (and I must say, I had zero problems with looking at various pictures of Mr. Paul Darrow for reference :D).

It's actually a scene from a short story I wrote a few days ago, which you can read here. It's an idea that struck me as I was watching the Series Four opener 'Rescue'.

The only thing I changed about Avon's outfit were his boots. As much as I love drawing big, comic book-ish, clunky boots with buckles and details, I actually thought his season four boots would take away from the drawing. They're a bit... loud (see what I mean?). So I gave him a pair of the plain black boots he wore in just about every episode from seasons one to three.

My favorite character! I saw him in person at a Newark NJ convention in the late 1980's! (and got home in time to watch the midnite re-run of B7 on PBS TV)

Oh Jesus! Those boots were WAY over the top, and not in a good way, either!

Of the four seasons of the show, it was season four that I hated the most. Avon was thinking with his paranoia instead of his brain, Cally was dead, the Liberator was destroyed, and pretty much everyone was operating on fumes.

And DON'T get me started on the last episode! I'll be here all danged night complaining about it.

I never really liked Tarrant, so that was a flaw for me (besides everything you mentioned!)

Ahh Im a huge Blake's 7 fan and can remember attempting to draw Avon myself some time ago, in the same outfit. I dont know about you but I always found the clothes more interesting to draw than the figure, what with the sheer 80s fiddlyness of them!
This is superb tho, really captures the character and what he must be feeling at that fourth series opener, having essentially mucked everything up.. :)

Thanks very much! Yeah, the costumes in Blake's 7 are totally fun. Some moreso than others, lol. I would love to have been able to design some of those costumes-- I have so many ideas!

I loved Jenna's costumes...the blue overdress on white was a favorite! Also the black and white tapestry outfit. And the black tunic with silvery stars all over.
I like Avon's silver tunic also. I liked Soolin's having a variety of hairstyles, very pretty.

Glad you like! And that it inspired you! An artist can't ask for anything more than that.

"Inspired" is an understatement. That picture is responsible for a large and important chunk of the revamped S4. ALL YOUR FAULT.

So when I saw Paul Darrow at a convention, a fangirl said, "You're the sexiest guy in the galaxy!" To which he said, "Don't you mean in the Universe?"
So then she said, "ummm oh yes! That's what I meant to say of course!"

And hey, once you get through the series, you'll be able to read my fic and tell me how bad it is... But at least you'll be able to understand it! ;)

Cool! Now that makes something like two people here who know what Blake's 7 is! :D

Thanks much for the comments. Paul Darrow can be a difficult man to draw, so I hope I did 'im justice!

Thanks! :)

B7 is an excellent series. It's not for everyone, I suppose (some people can't get past the budget special effects and such-- we're talking late '70s British sci-fi here!). But it more than makes up for it in characters and story. Quite a mature series where the heroes don't always win.

If you're interested in checking it out, let me know.

All four seasons are out on DVD in the UK. So if you're in the States you'll need a multi-region DVD player to view them. That's the only downside... I doubt the series will ever be released over here :(
