Robin III by stratosmacca Robin III by stratosmacca
Drawing of the Tim Drake Robin, undoubtedly my favorite comic book hero of all time. Strange to some, perhaps, but I shall explain...

When his comic series first came out in 1993, I was 13-years old. Tim Drake was my age, and his comic series really appealed to me. Here was this kid roughly around my age who was going to school like I was, experiencing the same problems-- homework, fitting in at school. It really made me connect with the character, and to see him juggle two sides to his life was very cool. To me, this version of Robin changed my view of the character from some ordinary sidekick into a cool kid who was constantly growing into the superhero role.

So there. Even now, Tim remains on the top of my list.

I started reading Batman comics in late 1989, when Tim Drake was introduced as Robin. The design that they highlighted in the comics at that time and showed everything that it had.
Removing green as a colour in the Robin costume was the worst thing they ever did. When the character of Robin was introduced in 1940 it was introduced to be like Robin Hood, and that is where the green comes from.

Very awesome work!  That version of the outfit it definitely the best!  Great physique proportioning and shadowing on the standing pose!

Why did they remove Tim so quickly as Robin. Dick was Robin for about nearly 40 years so why couldn't they keep Tim for as long as Dick.
Then they changed his costume. Why remove the green from his costume? Green has a lot of history with Robin.
If I was in control of DC Comics, then Tim would still be Robin today.

Yeah, I agree. I think when they removed the green from his costume they basically sucked the life out of him. His personality changed around that point.

I think the new higher ups at DC didn't like Tim for whatever reason and wanted to put their own stamp on things up by bringing in someone like Damian (who they then killed after only a few years, which made the whole thing pointless). Tim's basically been made redundant in the DC Universe since then. It's a shame.

Dick Grayson had over 40 years as Robin, Jason Todd had 8 years as Robin, and Tim Drake had 15 years. Tim should still be Robin. Why do they have to replace Robins. Batman doesn't age in the comics so why does Robin.

The Damian character didn't make sense to me. Batman wouldn't put himself into a situation where he would father a child while he was Batman and especially to one of his enemies daughters. Then to allow this child, the Grandson of Ra'sha Al Gulh, into the Batcave?

To me, Drake will/might be the next Batman, why? One of his own creators said that Drake will be Bruce's equal or surpass him in deductive ability and his physical capabilities are on par with Grayson, and he WAS Batman not long ago.

For me, even though DC said Drake was never a Robin. just Red Robin with their 52 relaunch - Drake is THE Robin, even beating out my old favorite Dick Grayson. (Jason Todd and Stephanie Brown...hmmm yuk)

OH back to the art, I really like it, it shows he's just as heroic as his mentors. The poses work well, it IS Tim Drake.

I know what you mean; although I discovered Tim a great deal later than my early teens,he made me remember many things I thought I had forgotten about myself! So, yeah, here goes for the Red Robin! (and here`s hoping the writers won`t insist on making him 'all work and no play'..sigh...)

Also, that`s one manly Tim ya got there! rawr!

Tim is my favorite character ever as well. Love what you did here. You kept the brow and strong features that Grummet gave him when he was starting out (no cleft chin, but that's ok). I love it. Too many artists these days have a tendency to make him look all bishy. That's Dick Grayson's job ;-)

Very cool! I like Tim a lot too and I completely understand. Ultimate Spider-man did the same thing for me a few years ago and was what really got me into comic books.

he's my favorite hero too! your designs would be perfect for an animated series. while i like bruce timm's stuff, they look too...more of cartoon network rather than DC.

Thanks! I'd love to see some new cartoon series with realistically drawn figures. The Timm style is cool and all, don't get me wrong, but it seems that nowadays all anyone wants to do is make cartoon series all stylized and strange. I can't remember the last time I watched a 'toon featuring characters with proper anatomy.

Tim is my favorite comic book character ever, followed closely by Superboy. I MISS KON-EL!!! :cries: Anyway... this is VERY well done. I love the three views you did of him. Fading the colors of the profile in the background gives a good sense of depth and space, and the action pose is very well done, too. I have trouble with poses that require that much forshortening(sp?) and what not. A VERY good set of character studies. Well done.
