Sufferer by straechav Sufferer by straechav
My first truly serious piece in Houdini. Ironically, uses almost none of the features Houdini is known for. But that's just what kind of art I do, I suppose. Matra does give out some really nice renders, though, once you wrap your head around it.

Thank you very much! There's more where that came from, I don't see stopping doing art any time soon. There's nothing crazy about liking my art. At least I think so... Honestly, I wonder what's wrong with me sometimes. :D

Yeah, I've been told it is pretty intense piece. Initially the colors were even more intense, but I decided to tone them down a bit. It was VERY "in your face" in at one point.

This looks amazing! I didn't realize it's digital until I read the description O.o
You make digital clay look very very realistic!

I like the symbolism in this sculpture. Looks like someone who's tortured by himself or his own mind. Or other way, whose mind is tortured by the body :3

Yeah, it came out pretty well. Part of the reason is that I did the sculpture like I would do a physical sculpture, so that helped quite a bit with the look. And that's one interpretation. I've heard four different ones by now, and they all sound pretty good to me.

Well yes, the technique has a great effect :D

Ouh, that's cool :D What was you intention/interpretation?

Sorry, I made a decision long time ago that I never share what I actually meant or thought about while doing my pieces. :)

I prefer people just come up with their own ideas. But, I can say I liked the user "dreamweirddreams" on Reddit who said this about the piece: "Is it weird I don't find this scary? It makes me hurt to see it. The suffering can be felt through it to me, it's like a mother being held back from going to a dead child by someone who's accepted that there's nothing that can be done. The somber but pained look on the one holding and the pure agony on the one being held. It's beautiful in a painful way. Honestly I'm in love with this piece, you did an amazing job on this."

I thought that was very thoughtful and well phrased interpretation of the piece. There have been few other interpretations, like some people have likened the piece to the experience of long lasting chronic pain, etc.

Well, that's one interesting decision to just not tell what it should mean... I think that's pretty great and leaves the viewer more space for own interpretation.

And yes, that version of interpretation is pretty good... I like the way he/she looks at the sculpture.

But I can also understand the idea of chronic pain...

I could swear, the picture is a photography of a real sculpture. But I know, you're working with 3D. It turned out incredible realistic!
And also the sculpture itself is kind of extraordinary. All around a great work!

Haha, thank you very much! Yes, it came out looking pretty good if I say so myself. I'm glad you like sculpture, I am trying to change my style a little bit. My latest pieces have started to look very "clean" and "smooth" lately, so I wanted to do something more real and gritty.

Part of me sees this as a strong representation of split personalities.
Some days, this is what my mind turns into.

Well done. This evokes tangible emotion.
