A graphite drawing I did in Sophomore year 2000 of school. This is one of the most famous covers of National Geographic. The photograph is of Sharbat Gula and was taken by Steve McCurry. As for the drawing, it won me best of show at the State Fair, Yeehoo! that's like the highest honor you can get, but then again it was only the Arizona state fair heh

This is a magnificent drawing. May I ask how you managed to create such depth in her eyes?

Thanks! Just a meticulous use graphic pencil, blending stick, and my own fingers. You can lightly use the side of a soft pencil (like a 2B-6B) and then spread it out a little with a blending stick, then smudge with your fingers a little to soften it up more. For the iris I used hard tipped pencils, 2H-6H, to make all the intricate lines
