Every once in a which I have an extreme difficulty drawing the likeness of a person.Specifically, I'll start with one particular photo reference. Sometimes it will literally take 2 minutes to draw the person and get a perfect likeness. Sometimes I will draw a particular photo of a person for hours and just cannot get the likeness of that person from that particular photo. In addition, I will find several other references sometimes getting their likeness in 2 minutes from a different reference sometimes never getting the likeness. I try going back to the original photo days later and rarely get the likeness from redrawing.
My question is how would you handle this frustrating situation of trying to get the likeness from drawing the original photo?
In the end, my ideas are maybe the original reference was just bad or maybe the way that I draw doesn't seem to relate to the reference in the right way. Im a very linear person when it comes to drawing so maybe I just need a more clear photo of the person with less tone and lighting?
I'm just trying to find possibly another way to approach this problem because I feel like I waste massive amounts of time redrawing the original photo.
