Let's start a war...

"...and let's win it this time."

Wonderworks is a civil leader, a protester, a mafia lord. He inherited most of his followers from his father Cabelleron, who wasn't a commonly known criminal to those who weren't criminals. He made his deals and did his business taking ancient artifacts and gems from ancient temples and dungeons that sure, were possibly under preservation and government protection, but what's the point of having treasure lying around that you weren't gonna use? It was mainly very annoying to explorers and historians, and he wasn't really a threat to the public at large.

One fated day, said Cabelleron was in Canterlot for an auction (okay, maybe it was a rigged auction) for a rather pretty gem he heard about. But while waiting in line to get in, he was arrested at the scene for assaulting police, attempted escape, death threats, resisting authority, attempted theft, and conspiracy to fraud. He was only guilty of the last thing at the time, but the unicorns whispering and scooting away from him hadn't cared. Who knew asking why he was getting arrested, backing away and saying, "You can't arrest me" was a threat and would get him put in fucking prison for an indefinite amount of time.

This made Wonderworks furious. Enraged, burning and blistering with anger and just contempt for society. He always knew about the looks he got with his father when they walked around, and his father explained "they're scared of the work we do" and "the horns on their head are a free pass in this world." Wonderworks had heard all the stories of Cabelleron being in an orphanage for the longest time, only to watch all the unicorn and pegasus kids get snatched up before he did. When he saw him abandoned in the same way, he couldn't pass him up. The fact was that unicorns merely tolerated sharing the land with earth ponies. Wonderworks saw a consistent trend of the Earth ponies being poorer and the unicorns not deserving the riches. It was whatever. But now they had taken his father, and he was going to change everything. 

Using what his father left behind, Wonderworks builds a cause, builds a personal little army of others who are interested. Things weren't about crime anymore, it was about making war, destroying the world of unicorns that merely allowed earth ponies and pegasi to live in it. The problem is unicorns have magic, and any unicorn could simply study to be a god if they wanted to. They've gotten used to being held in high regard because of their ability to channel magic and finding new ways to apply it to everything. New ways to make materials, new ways to make food...new ways to take jobs away from earth ponies, it felt like. Soon they would have to depend on the unicorns for everything. So obviously....we just have to take the magic away from them. Even if it's one by one. Even its by force. It's the earth pony's turn to use it and put the unicorns to shame.
