Vendetta sniffled as she sat quietly in her moonlit room. She had suffered through another nightmare where the kids from outside came into the house and tore up her room, yelling things like "witch" and "freak". She held her teddy bear closely as she had when she shot awake. Sometimes it felt like it was the only constant calm in her life... Well, besides her parents.
Maybe I should go to them.... She really didn't want to; they sometimes seemed annoyed when she came in and blabbered about her nightmares. Or rather, Starlight always seemed annoyed.

Not to mention, her moms just had a baby boy. He was a weird two horned baby by the likes of which she'd never seen in real life or in books. He was in her moms' room too, so what if she woke him up? Would he start crying and stuff, especially since she was already crying? She tried to think about Moondancer, and how she was happy to help. She would often hold her in her arms until she went back to sleep on these restless nights.

But if Vendetta was being honest to herself, she feared Starlight's disapproval more than she liked Moondancer's comfort.

"What should I do, Spuddles?" Vendetta asked her doll quietly and flipped the bear to face her. His unassuming polka dot body and pink smiley face never ceased to ease her...until the times he decided to talk.

"You should go in there!" he responded back, but really, she was just talking in a higher pitched voice.

"H-huh? Why?" She was appalled; didn't Spuddles just hear all the reasons not to go in there swirling in her head?

"You deserve to get in trouble for being a crybaby in the first place! Plus, who cares about the baby? If it cries, it cries!"

"I mean, I guess..."

"Also..." The bear wriggled out of her grasp, and twirled in a circle. Vendetta gasped and touched her horn, which was hot with magic....albeit magic she couldn't control. "I bet you I can make it there first!"

"H-Hey, wait!"

But the doll had already sped out through her bedroom door. She kept herself from shouting after it, and instead headed out of her room as well. She tiptoed on the old floorboards, and made sure not to make a sound. She had barely left the house in all her life--the least she could do was memorize which planks were creaky so she could successfully get a midnight snack. It was also useful whenever Spuddles decided to pull things like this. She gave an annoyed glare at her radiating horn. So he's still on the move, huh? She eyed the hallway doors up and down. The bathroom, the closet, her moms' cracked open bedroom--wait. Oh god.

Please, please, PLEASE Spuddles, don't be in there....! Vendetta thought desperately and put her hands over her horn to keep the light from giving away her position. She crept towards the door, heart beating fast with worry. Then she heard something....quite bad.

"What do you think you're doing, huh?"

It was Starlight's voice. Vendetta froze immediately. Her heart dropped into a sea of cold ice.

"You're being very bad tonight, you know that, right?"

She gulped and her ears flattened to her head in shame. I should just show myself if she knows. Swelling with a familiar but guttural unease, she peeked through the door to meet her fate of yelling--

Absolute dread overtook her body from what she saw. She shook. She shook in a way she never had before, in such a way that her bones felt like they had left her body and all that was left was a hollow shell of a pony.
Her moms were in bed, sure...but Starlight sat on Moondancer's torso, and choked her with all of her might. Her mom. Choking her other mom, her favorite mom. Moondancer gasped for air and her nails dug into Starlight's arms, but the purple unicorn just chuckled with delight.

"Come on, Moony! I'm not even bleeding."

Vendetta's quivered severely. Wait...Moomy can't breathe...can she? So Mommy is going to kill her...?! Why? Why?! Is it because of me? Did I do something? It has to stop....this has to stop! But she was frozen. Her body wouldn't move, except for the neverending trembling. But she had to move...she...she had to!

She finally forced herself to slam the door open and run forward, although she didn't make it far for fear of meeting the same fate.

This, understandably scared the living hell out of Starlight who let out a squeak and immediately let go of Moondancer, who was wheezed for air, not only from being choked, but the abrupt sight of her daughter. "HOLY Celestia in a three way wedding!! What--w-what are you--?!" Starlight began, hardly able to form words through her blushing and...well, the unexpected interference.

"M--mommy, s-s...s-stop!" Vendetta whispered, but the tears were falling and she began to hyperventilate. She was so overwhelmed with the churning feeling of raw, feral anxiety in her stomach that she thought she would throw up. This can't be happening. This can't be happening...! The unstoppable whirling feeling sent her to her knees and broke her down into sobs. "Don't! Don't kill Moomy, please!"

Starlight glanced to the corner of the room and made sure the deafening spell around their newborn son was still in tact. Since it was, she  swung her head back to her daughter. Her expression ascended dumbfounded.

"What? N-no, I wasn't killing Moomy! See, she's fine?" she quickly said and rubbed Moondancer's arm. The yellow unicorn sat up and fumbled around for her glasses to look at her child. "Y-yeah, I'm....I'm fine," she stammered and clumsily wrapped the bed's blanket around both her and her wife. Thankfully, they weren't completely unclothed. (Not that Vendetta would know anything about that...)

"But--but...!"

"Come here, Vee," Starlight sighed and patted the space between both her and her wife. Vendetta hesitated, but was more willing when Moondancer beckoned her with a hand as well.

She only took two steps back.

"Look, Vendetta--I would never kill Moondancer! Let's not be ridiculous, okay?" Starlight promised sweetly and held Moondancer's hand. "We were just...having fun!"

"Huh?"

Moondancer gave a warning glance to Starlight, but she didn't seem to get it. "Yes, we were just playing a little game, you know? She likes it, and well, I want to make your Moomy happy, so I do what she tells me, and um....yeah!" She clapped her hands together and smiled the best she could, but the nervousness was obviously still there. She really wasn't ready to explain this, especially not right now, and especially not to her ten year old child.

Vendetta sniffled and looked to Moondancer for her input as well. Her mother laughed awkwardly and adjusted her glasses.

"W-Well, y-you see, uh...." she stuttered and cleared her throat, which, quite frankly, was sore. "Sometimes, when you love someone veeeeery much, you trust them. You trust them a lot, and well, I trust Starlight with my life... I-I know she would never really hurt me, even if I asked her to. A-And some people like being hurt, especially by people who love them, b-because you can trust them not to really damage you, y-you know?"

"You want to be hurt by Mommy....and she does it because she loves you?" Vendetta asked, and looked utterly confused. Moomy wants to be hurt by Mommy because she likes it? She sniffled and felt a horrible jealousy suddenly take hold of her. "Then why doesn't Mommy hurt me?"

"Oh my god," Starlight groaned and facepalmed.

"No no no no! It--that's different, Starlight loves you very much, but hurting kids is bad! It's very, VERY bad and you should never hurt kids!" Moondancer quickly said and reached out to Vendetta. "Plus, Starlight and I are married, so it's completely different..."

But don't the kids outside want to hurt me like Mommy hurts you? Is it okay for kids to hurt kids? That's all they want to do to me, the girl thought bitterly. "I don't get it..." she mumbled and let her mother pick her up and cradle her.

"You...you really don't have to get it, you're too young," Moondancer sighed and shook her head. "I'll just put you to bed, okay...? And what were you doing peeping in on us anyway? That's also very bad."

"S-Spuddles ran away, and I thought he went into your room..."

"I think we'd be able to notice if a teddy bear suddenly ran into our room."

"Again with the weird fantasies," Starlight muttered bitterly, but otherwise pointed for the two to leave. Moondancer rolled her eyes and stepped out into the hallway, even going as far as to look both ways for the bear, but to no avail. Vendetta held on to her silently as she walked down the squeaky hall and into her room.

"Oh! Look, he's right there on your bed," she chuckled and pointed Vendetta to the doll, which indeed was sitting unassumingly on her pillow. The girl pouted, but let herself be placed in the bed and tucked in.

"Moomy...."

"Yes, dear?"

"Do...do I have to sleep in here? What if Mommy chokes you again?"

Moondancer turned a rosy pink and shook her head hastily. "N-no, Vendetta, I told you it's fine... don't worry about it, okay? When you wake up tomorrow, your Mommy and I are going to be just fine, and everything will be the same as ever. Just....try and forget about what happened tonight, okay? I don't want you to be scared of Starlight over a misunderstanding." She picked up Spuddles and tucked him in next to her. "But seriously though. No more bursting into our room, okay? That's what knocking is for. You don't have to use Spuddles as an excuse if you just want to talk to us in the middle of the night."

"But....I wasn't using him as an excuse, he really ran away," Vendetta whimpered and hugged the teddy bear closely.

"Well... don't let him do that again." Moondancer leaned over and kissed the girl's forehead and smiled. "Goodnight, I love you."

"I...I love you too."

The girl watched her mother's figure leave the room, close the door, and heard her exhausted sigh. Then her fading footsteps, and another door close. I really hope they're safe....but... She couldn't stop thinking about the image of Starlight choking Moondancer. It was....horrifying. It made her nauseous all over again. But it wasn't supposed to be? It was a good thing, they said. Sort've. It was so hard to understand, and it made her shiver uncomfortably. Suddenly, her horn began to glow.

"Why do you think the kids are always throwing rocks and stuff? It's because they like you. I would hurt you too, but I'm just a dolly..." Spuddles' high pitched voice chuckled. He abruptly turned to face her. "Maybe you should give me some teeth!"

"Spuddles, you don't like me, you're mean to me."

"I'm only mean to you because I can't actually hurt you! Starlight, on the other hand, can hurt you but she doesn't. She's just a meanie to you. But she looooves Moondancer, and I bet you she'll hurt the baby too because she loves it so much."

"But I remember them saying hurting others is bad a while ago...and now they're saying hurting kids is especially bad..."

"Well, look at them now! They're doing it to each other, so it must be fine."

"Spuddles--"

"So in conclusion, she doesn't REALLY love you. Your feelings hurting and you REALLY hurting are two different things. If you really feel the pain, that's good. If it's just on the inside, like what Starlight does to you...she just wants you to be heart-hurt, which is much worse."

"Spuddles, I...I just want to sleep."

"Fine...but don't come crawling to me when you still don't get it."

He went limp in her arms, and the light of her horn went out. She sighed and closed her eyes that were drying and rubbed her nose that was burning. All the energy she had spent freaking out earlier wasn't going to magically come back. I'll just sleep...and forget about it, just like Mommy told me to.

Alas, would never forget for the rest of her life.

woohoo! i completely rewrote this scene like three times but i think it finally turned out the way i wanted. this is one of the most traumatic moments in Vendetta's life, and with the poor explanation of her mothers trying to soften the blow... it ends up messing her up a bit. okay maybe a lot... hope you enjoyed...? asdfjkl
