"Really now? It's amazing you know that."

everyday im angry at dA for getting rid of the description preview button but ANYWAY
YES i forgot spectacle's glasses but i swear i tried to draw them like 800 times and it looked fugly every time
time to get into the drama
I've said before that Starlight was Twilight's pupil for a while, as described here:

Obviously a few retcons are in play, such as the fact that Mild Glow no longer exists in the Gamiverse...but the fact remains that Starlight Glimmer was Twilight's first pupil, and Suave was her second. I was going to add more pictures, but honestly I just really like how this picture looks on its own lol. So we're opting for a long description instead, to make up for the month I left you poor ponies starving from my content...and honestly, this has been on my mind for a while.
Context one should know before reading is at the bottom of the description!

this is the time that Starlight left Moondancer and Vendetta to seek out Twilight for some well deserved, meticulously planned, possibly violent revenge. Twilight was quite literally the reason Starlight's entire life was ruined. (Again.) She had pulled up to Our Town, turned most everyone she had gathered over the years against her, and even burned the place to the ground. She was almost able to get rid of Twilight then and there on the mountaintops... but even Starlight knew when she was defeated.
And she HATED being defeated. More than anything else. So Twilight was going to pay...
But Starlight felt that she was too classy to merely barge into Twilight's humble abode and smite her into another dimension. She wanted it to be a slowburn, cooking up the bond of trust between the two of them like a toad boiling in water... She prided herself on being a good actor, and if she had to stay playing nice by the princess' side as her student for a lifetime to find that perfect opportunity to strike her down during her most vulnerable, she would. Not to mention Twilight was the Princess of Friendship, so she HAD to take her in!
Surely enough, after Starlight pulls up to Twilight's tree house on a stormy night, battered and in tears, begging to be let in and asking how to change her ways-
She is denied.
Door slammed in her face, nonetheless. Starlight is...actually quite appalled at this. This rejection frankly was not something she expected, so she ends up...well aimlessly wandering around Ponyville, now without shelter from a storm. She finds a crummy caravan to stay in (that is full of random magical garbage--what is this, a smoke bomb? Rabbits in hats?? Glitter???) and stays the night contemplating the mindnumbing event that just occurred.
Meanwhile, Twilight is HORRIFIED. Starlight Glimmer--the one who ran a cult, nearly killed her, nearly killed some of her own subjects simply for disobeying--was in her town and wanted to...change?
Over the next day or two, she calls up everyone she knows. Celestia, the Mane Six, Pop Quiz... she asks them all for advice. What should be done? And while they all had varying answers ("beat her ass" or "maybe its a trap?"), Celestia's resounded with her the most. "You're the Princess of Friendship, Twilight... I believe you will make the right choice." She couldn't argue with that. Celestia trusted her with this role, bringing hope and friendship to those who were obviously misguided... I mean, how misguided does one have to be to run a whole cult? Even though Starlight must have been aware of what she was doing to keep everyone under her control... if she was coming to her like this, then obviously she wanted to change. She had nothing anymore--who know how hard it had been for her these past years? Even if this was a trap, it was her job to make Starlight experience true friendship. That's what a Princess of Friendship does, right? If they could tame an all powerful chaos-causing god, then Starlight should be a cakewalk in comparison. So she makes up her mind...and takes her in as her pupil.
(Starlight is found being mauled by Trixie's baby triplets in the back of her caravan.)
So from then on, Starlight and Twilight are buddies. Celestia expected this outcome and is fine with it, as it keeps Starlight within a close vicinity to the watchful eyes of the Queens themselves. Whatever Starlight is planning, Celestia is sure that it won't be easy to accomplish right under royalty's nose. Not to mention she's too powerful to be left alone. But the Queen she would never let Twilight know she thinks like this, as she knows Twilight would interpret it as she doesn't trust her to reform Starlight. Unfortunately, Celestia is completely right. Starlight is up to no good, but nobody would know that since nosing through libraries as much as she does is common for her and Twilight, not to mention the excessive smiling might be a sign she really IS learning about friendship.... so it's hard to detect her malice, especially when she's around Silent Spectacle, Twilight's daughter.
And honestly...Starlight can't be mad around Spectacle. She's bright, charming, and still waddles when she walks. Unlike Vendetta, her head is always inside of an encyclopedia trying to learn more about the world instead of hiding in the closet and rocking back and forth crying. Spectacle actually listens to what Starlight has to say and is interested in learning more about magic and potions, meanwhile Vendetta can't even use magic of her own volition. Anytime her horn lights up, a nightmare follows, but this filly is quite competent in magic for her age. Spectacle can go above and beyond despite being just a toddler, making sense of her surroundings and speaking in clear sentences... Vendetta is a couple years older and never says anything of value. "Mommy, Spuddles is alive, I promise..." "Why can't my bones be on the outside?" "They're watching me again..." Utter nonsense. In fact, Spectacle was keeping her here longer than she had ever intended. What, has it been a year or two already? Does she REALLY have to go back to that...thing? Sure, she missed Moondancer in a roundabout way, but living in Ponyville, has not only made Starlight realize that quite literally no other child is like Vendetta, but that Spectacle was the best out of them all. Maybe there was some way she could bring back Spectacle with her... now THAT would be justice.

Guess I'm not the only one who made Starlight stay a villain in their AU
