Peace Candles by stevezpj Peace Candles by stevezpj
I took this photo in 2008, during the Hiroshima Peace Festival - the remains of the Atomic Bomb Dome are visible in the background (one of the few buildings to survive since it was at Ground Zero - the area directly under a nuclear bomb is the least damaged). It was very emotional walking amongst all the happy faces and wonderful people, knowing the devastation that had occurred here.

All the origami style cranes are to celebrate Sadako Sasaki and cranes have become a sign of peace in Japan with millions of people all over the world sending origimi cranes to Hiroshima every year (they are displayed in glass cases in the Peace Park) [link]
