I grew up in San Jose, CA, at the southern end of the San Francisco Bay Area. I got tired of the dry, and moved up to Portland, OR, where it's green and moist. I like temperate rain forests, so it's a good fit. I like the motto "Keep Portland Weird", too, although it isn't nearly as weird as that motto implies. I have a degree in Business Economics, with a side order of Mechanical Engineering, and Graphic Design for dessert, although I never finished all of the curriculum because I started my own business, and just didn't have the time. (There were two of us doing the whole suite of user guides for a medical laser company's entire product line.)
I worked for Xerox for a while, as a technical illustrator, primarily on the service side. I got to illustrate all of the service manuals for the desktop printer division. Then I got laid off (along with many others) when the high mucky mucks decided they wanted a higher share price.
Then I got involved in a sustainability group, where I hoped to work with aqua/hydroponics, solar, and wind technologies. It didn't work out, as they were more talk than action. But as a result of it, I got involved in construction and home inspection, which is what I now do (mostly home inspection, I don't swing a hammer much any more).
I also gamemaster a tabletop roleplaying game for some friends, which takes up much of my free time. There is a lot of worldbuilding and writing (including writing up the adventure log (a recounting of the play sessions) as a narrative story. You can find information about the world I've built on my WorldAnvil site, as well as the write-ups of the game sessions: https://www.worldanvil.com/w/scourge-of-shards-schpdx
