1 part pencil, 2 parts ability...patience & diligence take care of the other 70%
So. The last time I did this was Feb 2013. A lot has happened since. Marriage broke down. Moved house. Twice. Mini mental breakdown. Punctuated by the occasional burst of pencil work. And so I'm giving it another go. Hence the latest submission  - a perfectly ordinary portrait of Liam Gallagher. I needed something easy to work myself back in again. What next. God knows.

Well. Over 5 years have passed since I last put pen(cil) to paper. 5 years. At least that's my estimate. To the best of my memory my last drawing was "Michael Stipe", and that was some time back in 2007. Why have I waited for this long to start again? I don't know. It seems to be an inherent facet of my personality - I reach a certain standard in anything that I do, and then I just stop. Very frustrating. Obviously having two young children in the house, with nowhere separate or secure to draw, was a factor. But where there's a will, there's always a way. I clearly lacked the will. So anyway the urge has taken me again. the seed was plante...

great work, great details! :)
Happy birthday! I hope it's a great one :D
brilliant work you do!!
You are an absolutely fantastic artist and one of the few that really inspires me to learn as much as I can and to really do my best. I am a fairly new pencil artist, and new to art in general, and your pieces just put me in awe. So thank you :) Keep up what you're doing and I hope to see more drawings.
You are my favorite artist here on deviant art, may I have tips on how to draw hair and skin like you do? I have bristol smooth paper but what kind of pencils and tools do you use?
hi-
tips on how to draw hair and skin?? I draw on bristol smooth board, and use pencils ranging from around 4b to 2h. I also do a lot of indenting to get negative effects, as well as some negative drawing. As far as skin tones go, use soft pencils very very gently, building up layers of tone. And of course blue tac is a great way to remove tone and add depth. It's trial and error more than science.....
