Help a talented artist get a job

Journal Entry: Sat Jul 31, 2010, 12:21 PM

Sometimes we get so focused on our own dreams we tend to have tunnel vision and not help others. I choose not to be this way. I had someone contact me recently about an artist friend he believes in and set a goal to get him a job in the art realm in 10 days. It's encouraging to have people believe in us and to goad (no pun intended) us in taking those steps to catch our dreams. Check out the link here and if you have any leads for them by all means send it their way. He has a unique style that I am thinking would do quite well in character concepts, commercial illustration and children's books.

I am Commander Shepard and I support this cause.

Hi Steve,

Joseph Cowman here. Hey thanks for the help. I really appreciate it, as we all know as artists, finding a living doing what we love is not easy & it's easy at times to consider walking away form your dream. Especially with the economy the way it is. I am very grateful to have a good paying job. It's like my wife & I always say, sometimes it's 2 steps forward, 1 step back & other times it's 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Just wanted to let people know I am grateful for the support & also grateful for my current job. I am not giving up, just taking a short term hiatus. Hope you have a great day!

Hi Joseph, don't mention it. My pleasure! Yeah I completely understand how things tend to get in the way of a forward momentum but stay with it bro! You know belief is a powerful thing. I've met people that believed they were ugly and would carry themselves in this manner. Wouldn't look people in the eye, dressed down...wouldn't wear makeup but in reality they were beautiful. It's no different as artists, if we believe what others tell us about it being unrealistic to achieve anything with our talents then we might as well hang it all up right now. Anything worth while doesn't come easy, bust that hump man...people will see it in your work and will want to invest in you.

It's amazing how things speak to us...heck even our own checkbooks tell us we can't do things. I just want to encourage you that no matter what your checkbook, economy, Joe Blow 5 blocks down from you says, if you believe you can leave a mark in this world with your art then by all means do so. It isn't unrealistic to go art full time, people are doing it now. Join the party! :D

Thanks Steve, I will keep working at it! You are definitely an inspiration. Keep up the positive influence and attitude, & wonderful work! Oh, & I'll try to remember "stay away from those who belittle your ambitions, small people will do that. Great people make you believe you too can become great" (Mark Twain)

Well, I believe that everyone who have already a job are lucky persons, is hard to find a job in this times, and more hard to find one where you can do the things that you like.

It's good to see that there's still people who cares about the problems of others, I wish I could help him...but I can't, so I wish him all the best, and I hope that everything go as should go.

Yeah no kidding, it's like the world woke up one day and said..hey let's be broke. I think it's all a joke and fear based. Remember how everyone went nuts over the Y2K scare? People were literally buying underground shelters and stocking up for a year. Businesses were spending millions to "prepare" and test their equipment and when Midnight struck....not a peep.

I appreciate the kindness, I hope he lands a job doing what he loves too.
