At The Mountains Of Madness

This is an illustration inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's epic story of the same name. It concerns the discovery - in 1930 - of the ruins of an immense alien city.

Many classic tales of horror and science fiction owe a great deal to this visionary work - among them "Alien", "The Thing" and many more such stories too numerous to list here. If you want to know more, I highly recommend giving the story a read

The 3D scene was made in Lightwave 3D, with some manipulation of the rendered image achieved in Photoshop. The airplane is from a collection of 3D objects I purchased a number of years ago (I can not recall the details at this point - the CD is long gone).

Textures for the sky and the mountains were created from images found at CG Textures [link] and reworked in Photoshop to serve the intended purpose.
