Ouch. (Sweet illustration by the way.)
I had a halfling druid loose his sight that way. Our barbarian tried to rescue him and botched a critical hit on the darkmantle. Nearly lost his head, smashed his face in something fierce. I kept the character though. A level later my blind disfigured druid wound up becoming a werebat/blind disfigured druid, and decided to never restore his natural eyesight. Little guy fought his way to 17th level before he retired. Wait, no, that was a cloaker.
