The sad elf
Illustration of a sad elf. First sketched out on a sketchbook before taken to iPad to complete using adobe sketch app. Using just two tools the watercolor brush and the pencil. In doing so keeping as close to my favorite style of traditional drawing
Puerco the monster eaters
Inspired by some Japanese cartoon styled illustrations Puerco the monster eaters is a somewhat light hearted graphical illustration of creatures rampaging through a bowl of food. It’s main aim was to create an illustration which could be used on t-shirts.
I am rather pleased with the final outcome of this piece. I had spend several days when things were just not working and going back to just sketching something on my iPad Pro with a done sketch (which I find incredible) and then moving into Procreate to finish, I was quite taken back by the final outcome. Something clicked together. I suppose every piece of work is a learning experience in itself.
Merchants market
A black and white fantasy illustration created on iPad Pro. Using solely and deliberately a studio pen stroke with an underlay illustration in black latter having a liberal cross hatched linear white inking with the same pen tool to added that ambience sketch-like feel. This was about creating a scene which transposed and used the traditional feel of pen and ink.
Parishs Lodge, Gibraltar (sketch)
A good old traditional on-site bit 0f sketching in the good old traditional old fashion way with watercolor and pencils, but this time without a sketch book, graphite or any jars of water just an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and Adobe’s Sketch app. Love the idea that I hadn’t gone out drawing for over a decade like this, and that back in 91/92 first time I used adobe photoshop I remember thinking how great it would be to have some type of portable device on which I could draw and store my images, thinking one day it will come but I won’t be around by them. Well I am. I haven’t sketched much like this in recent years, but could so easily start doing so again now. It has the same freedom and feel (in many ways) as the old fashion way of doing things, yet it’s not the old fashioned way. The beauty of the way technology is advancing is that it tried the effects, the new tech, but as many people head back to sketch books the new tech will become something we will all embrace fully as it heads back to the traditional feel and tries to replicate it instead of trying to be too techie.
Street football
A celebration of street football. Minimalist digital hand drawn painting of young kids playing football on the streets.

No journal entries yet.

Artist | Traditional Art
You could call me a "forgotten artist". After finishing my degree in Fine Art back in 1992 I sort of entered the media/publishing field and from advertising/print salesman to entering the journalism arena art became a forgotten area of my life. Commercial design and layouts for publications along with my photojournalism took a main role. Twenty five years on I have returned to the sketchpads, and with it also to digital drawing after a spell of four years exclusively concentrating on photojournalism. So these is really a return to old roots, embracing new media, and seeing where it goes from here.
