I would not say it was sad, I got to work on a game that concept artists kill for.
The game would have done better, had 2k not been greedy and done what TRS wanted to do originally on the sales side. I would not trade working on Evolve for anything else, the team was a family, and we accomplished something that a team twice as big would have been hard pressed to do.
The owners took care of everyone who worked for them, and they themselves put in 12 or more hours almost everyday. We all loved the game we were working on as hard as it was to make something that really had never been done before and our reference points were very few. We just made it a little too hardcore for something so new and easily broken if the right people were not matched together.
They fixed a lot for the Free to play version, but the damage was done by that point : / And survived far longer than many other AAA multiplayer only games in recent years.
I became the artist I am today because of evolve and the awesome people in TRS who gave me a chance to be a game dev to go on to work on alleged masterpieces like God of War
