Requirements for Traveling

Traveling seems to be one of the hardest activities to get right, so here's a handy-dandy guide for all to create entries that will pass our secret standards!

That are not so secret now!

What to avoid?

If you look around in the group's other activities, you see quite a lot of them, especially enamoreds, trainings, hunting and gathering takes place on a big fields of grass or leafy forests. These occupy 90% from the artwork backgrounds and locations we see in the ARPG, so those are naturally the places you should avoid when creating traveling artwork.
In some rare cases grasslands and leaf forests are accepted, but if you are not sure if you can make them up to standards, it's best to avoid them all together. The grasslands are accepted for example if it's mostly rocky area, it's wintertime, there's a lake or lake-sized river. The background should include more of the extraordinary, unique details than just grassland or forest.

In short…!

~ Leaf-green forests are not traveling detail, unless they have unusual multicolored leaves or their trunks make a weird shape. Not twisted aimlessly, but for example forming a screaming figure, or a hand, or a star, or are made of crystals.
~ Grass is never a traveling detail, not even when colored other than green. There can be some around, but will not be considered an element for the count.
~ Flowers/weird plants won't count as traveling detail, unless they take more than 50% of the background

These pictures all are other than traveling, but they do make a fine example of what is not accepted as traveling locations.

Here are even more examples of what is not acceptable, not matter the art level

What to do then for traveling?

Other than drawing grasslands and forests, traveling is most versatile activity of them all. Kukuris can be drawn literally anywhere you want, and there's plenty of places to choose from. The kukuris can explore depths of ocean, with or without scuba gear. They can travel across desert towards oasis or sandstone formations. Kukuris can delve in to the jungle and found an ancient temple filled with snakes and bugs. They can even explore space station or urban suburb! Let your imagination fly when choosing the location for the traveling entry!

If you need inspiration, the simple googling of 'exotic nature' brings thousands of photos from various locations all across the world. You can always pick up the one that suits your skill level the best! Traveling is a good way to stretch your background skills as well, so don't be afraid of trying something new! The more exotic the place is you picked, the more likely it'll be rolled as traveling without problems!

What other things should be considered?

For a picture to be considered to be good enough to be rolled, independently of the artistic ability.

  • It must have foreground and background. A middleground would be good too.

  • Be in one exotic place, or, have one big detailed exotic element that takes at least 75% of the background

  • Have at minimum of three elements on top of the previously mentioned ones, more if possible.

Traveling backgrounds have same rules as any other activity backgrounds. It should have some details in it, for example a large desert can't be just sand and sky. Adding couple cacti and skulls laying around it a good start, but adding on top that a lonely vulture, some rocky mountains in the distance and maybe kangaroo rat escaping a scorpion, then we are talking about good traveling entry! Things like single tuft of grass in a rocky area won't count as detailed background, so make sure to add something unique around the enviroment! If there's a lot of prickly grass growing around the rocks and mist covering slightly the horizon that is full menacing rock formations... You know by now what I'm trying to say.

If you are unsure if there are enough elements, a good rule of thumb is to add more or different exotic ones.

Show us an experience. Make kukuri travel to somewhere where they have never been before. Not just your kukuri, but every kukuri in the community! They all have visited grass land covered in leaf forests. It's time to send them out to face the world!

ELEMENTS

You can base the main background over one of the four elements

Fire - Volcanos, Hell, Furnaces, Bonfires, Planet's Core and everything that contains lava, fire, heat and so on!
Water - It's easy here, rivers, sea, islands, sauna, pools, waterfalls, healing springs, or explore the abyss!
Air  - Floating platforms, storms, clouds, lightnings, nightsky, space and galaxy, aurora.
Earth - This is a tricky one, as said the most important rule is to avoid infinite rug of grass, if you plan to base your environment on earth, AVOID GREEN. Earth can be shown in many ways! Mountains, stones, minerals, food, sand, crystals, not just grass and trees. You can even make red trees and red grass dripping  blood for example, or a golden forests with spirits, just avoid that boring green grass and trees.

CONTINENTS

Each continent shows different environments, as said, avoid grass and trees.
The ones you can choose from can be Savannah, Tundra, Desert, Arctic, Beach, Mountains, and Swamp.
Add another weird/strange element in these areas (Big bones, weird fruits/plants, weird shaped mountains/rocks, neon things, flying creatures) and you are good to go!

ARCHITECTURE

Visiting new places is always a good opportunity to see new buildings and monuments, take inspiration from real life cities and architecture!
Graveyards, Markets in the desert, fairs, Museums, bridges monuments like the Chinese Wall, Colosseum, Statue of Liberty, Mt. Rushmore, Big Bang, Churches, Temples, Tunnels, Sewers, Metropolis, Farm, anything urban, explore alle the alleys!

TIMELINE

You love history?  Time-travel!
Prehistoric, Medieval, Persian, Arabian, Chinese Empire, Maya, Aztech,  Victorian, Pirates, Roman-Greek Age, Modern times, Futuristic, Post-Apocaliptic.

FANTASY
This is the most easy (but maybe not because is actually an huge area and I can't find visual examples for everything ) setting. Anything strange and creative here is a win!
Aliens, floating castles, crystal palaces, falling kingdoms, the paradise, the hell, maybe a shell that is the home of some mermaids, pixies, fairies, runes, dark and strange wizard caves, flying whales, the throne of king of the goblins; basically anything magic, unnatural, mythological, fantascientific.
Whatever really.

Whatever really, your imagination is the limit!

Oh, one last thing, plain grasslands and green leafy forests? Those are not allowed, you should avoid then.

Sorry if we forgot to say it before.
