Comments: It was nice seeing these two together, and they looked good! The shading on Sunday Memory is particularly nice. The biggest point deductions came from forgetting to credit references and forgetting the inner turf courses of Belmont Park. Other than that, a great entry, accompanied by some nice stories!

Sunday Memory was by far the fastest to break, leaping several lengths ahead before being taken in hand and pulled back to lead by about a length throughout much of the race. On the final turn, Natural Disaster, coming from the outside, pulled up alongside Sunday Memory and challenged him for the lead. The black stallion didn't give it and drew away in the final furlong to register a two length victory.

Comments: Witching Hour was definitely the most colorful entrant in either race, and she looks great. The apparent lack of shading cost a few points on effort, and the somewhat flat appearance of the rail compared to the horses cut down on the background score. The slight darkening of Blaklion in the background was something I liked, it helped bring more attention to Witching Hour. I also liked how the more moderate pace mentioned in the story somewhat shows in the picture as no horse is full out and seem to be conserving themselves for the end. A few minor, nit-picky things that didn't really affect the final score: between Blaklion and Witching Hour's hind legs, there seems to be an odd white spot, and a piece of mane poking through the reins. Overall a nice entry!

Comments: I found the angle quite interesting, and the motion blur was also a nice touch. The background is well done and has a nice painterly look to it. There didn't seem to be much shading, which cut down a bit on effort. Compared to Taizai, the jockey seemed to have a bit much motion blur. Another nit-picky thing that didn't affect score is Taizai's apparent lack of hoofprints in the dirt. The story was also nice, and Taizai's kind of going off on her own fit in well.

Both horse broke sharply, and FHF Witching Hour went to the front, leading by several lengths over Taizai down the backstretch and into the turn. Taizai started to fall on the turn and hooked up with Witching Hour down the home straight. Niether backed down from the challenge, and it was Taizai by a nose at the wire.

Thanks to everyone who participated! It was a great experience to judge the races. Feedback on the judging would also be great. What parts did you like? What parts did you not like? What could I do better on next time? The actual heat races should be up sometime within the weeks.
If something seems wrong with the judging to you, or I did not add correctly, tell me and I'll either fix it or explain.
