Commission: yarmulke by StarTyrian Commission: yarmulke by StarTyrian
Knitting commission -- a purple and black kippah/yarmulke. I decided to get fancy and start with a Latvian braid edge; by the time I realized Latvian braid is hell to do on anything bigger than a mitten cuff, I was in Shonen Retard mode and couldn't back down. :D

The braid is amazing! Any other pictures, a side view perhaps? Did you start out and go in?

Ah, no, I was sorta hasty with the picture taking and didn't get a side view. Here's the tutorial I used though, so you can see how it works:

What you can't see in the tutorial is that on the first row, every stitch puts a twist in the yarns. Not a big deal on, say, a 36-stitch mitten cuff; hugely annoying on a 120-stitch hat. o_O

Holy shit. You knitted a yarmulke. There is something indescribably cool about that.

Well, it was a commission, so technically it wasn't my idea. :)

The tricky thing was that the internet is full of crocheted kippot for sale, which are labeled 'knit yarmulke many patterns', and thus swamp the search results for knitting patterns. I ended up just figuring it out by trial and error.
