Stock in a nutshell (updated)
Hi there, good to meet you!  You're probably here because you're beginning to work on a photo-manipulation and want to use some stock images. You may have heard terms like legitimate stock thrown around, but not explained; maybe someone declined to accept your work into their group because of lack of proper credits. We, as in the team of CRPhotomanipulation (https://www.deviantart.com/crphotomanipulation), decided to compile a bunch of suggestions and advice that will help you navigate the murky waters of all the most common problems you might encounter in your budding career as a photo manipulation artist. Stock Copyright - Shutterstock, iStock vs. DA
First and foremost, I am not a lawyer. This journal contains my personal understanding of copyright law, terms and conditions for the mentioned websites as it relates to the stock and the artistic community here on DeviantArt (DA). However, please feel free to share this journal. Recently, one of DA’s most active and respected stock users came under fire for using off site (meaning outside DA) stocks in her work. As a “stocker”, I was surprised to hear of this - It was my understanding that this was common practice for artists to do. It prompted me to look into the matter and dust off the little bit of arts law I studied

 Hello
Hope you are all having a great day. It came to my attention some problems about what sites are legal stock providers and witch ones are not.
I have made a very extensive research to make sure I'm not making a mistake by declining images with not confirmed sources. Please read very carefully, i will not battle about this later.
Sketchy sites with a lot of cropped images are not accepted.

Thanks to Wesley-Souza for this:

:gallery: So here a list of a few that we recommend:

:bulletblue: Dreamstime
:bulletblue: stock.adobe.com
:bulletblue: Photoexpress
:bulletblue: Stockvault
:bulletblue: Sxc.hu (only with the written permission of the owner)
:bulletblue: Istockphoto
:bulletblue: Renderosity
:bulletblue:123rf.com
:bulletblue: fotolia.com
:bulletblue: freeimages.com
:bulletblue: pixabay.com
:bulletblue: freestock.ca
:bulletblue: Shutterstock.com
:bulletblue: Gettyimages
:bulletblue: istockphoto
:bulletblue: flickr
:bulletblue:  MorgueFile
:bulletblue:  Depositphotos
:bulletblue: CGTextures.com
:bulletblue: Unplash.com
:bulletblue:  mediamilitia.com
:bulletblue: stocksnap

Now about this site that is given me headache each time. Flickr has a search engine like Google (not a valid source), that has all types of images in one place for you to find, BUT according to all sites i read, you can use the advanced search on the site to look up relevant Creative Commons-licensed photos and artwork. Be careful when using CC-licensed images to ensure that you follow the terms of the license completely. So from now one, the images i declined that has the CC licensed confirmed feel free to resubmit, the rest will be declined so don't even bother.

About Nasa I’m well aware of the rules they have, this is a personal choice, I dont want amazing photos to be manipulated or changed, they should have a museum for those photos, not to be used by us. If you dont like it, dont buy it.

SXC.HU stocks are now forbidden Unless you get the permission from the owner. This is their new rule too.

:police: Sites that are NOT confirmed nor will i accept:
:bulletred: Photobucket
:bulletred: Gfxspot and the similar ones
:bulletred: NASA
:bulletred: Google
:bulletred: Facebook
:bulletred: Tumblr
:bulletred: Taringa
:bulletred: mrg.bz

:bulletred: blogspot.com
:bulletred: Model Mayhem
:bulletred: wikimedia.org
:bulletred: shop.scrapbookgraphics.com/
:bulletred: Renders of any type or site
:bulletred: Any wallpapers site.
:bulletred: rgbstock.com
:bulletred: pngall.com
:bulletred: Lenagold.ru
:bulletred:  pngmart.com
:bulletred: pngimg.com
:bulletred: pluspng.com
 :bulletred: oscraps. com
:bulletred: kisspng.com
:bulletred: stickpng.com
:bulletred: pngtree.com
:bulletred: pngkey.com
:bulletred:  casimages.com
:bulletred:  imageafter.com
:bulletred:  clipart
:bulletred: Snipstock (they admit they use public domain images and they dont credit)
:bulletred: Visualhunt . com It is a compilation of other sites like Pixabay and Unsplash without crediting any owner of the photos.

As always i recommend using DeviantArt resources gallery following each rules. So here its all you need to know to avoid problems in my groups. What the other groups policy is, i DON'T CARE nor will change anything here. So if you don't like it, feel free to leave this groups.

I used photos that are screenshots, for example, but are online. So screenshots that are shared online don’t count, do they?

I think iwth Wikimedia and pixabay sometimes photos have been uploaded by others who do not own them or the pictures depict something which is copyrighted within the image....therefore the free for commercial use is/cannot be true.  So always worth maybe a google image reverse search to see if photo actually comes from anywhere else with some of these......

DollarPhotoClub.com is legal, but Pixabay.com is iffy. I have found hundreds of stolen stocks on that site, many come from DeviantArt, Flickr, and professional sites.

I don't understand why Wikimedia is banned. They have specific licenses for each image and specifically listed public domain.

I use stock from there sometimes, and I always make sure to read the usage rights before doing so. So I am curious about it being on this list.
