Leia is Nobody's Slave (Win these earrings!)

I designed these earrings to match the style and colors of the Leia's bikini costume from Return of the Jedi. Interestingly enough, my favorite design aspect of the costume is the gold pattern and overall shape of the soft leather boots, which inspired the structure of the earrings.

With this piece, I took women's clothing that was created for men to drool over, and I reclaimed it for women.

I will award these earrings to whoever can do the same thing to the whole costume. Keep the style/colors/materials, but draw a version of the slave Leia costume that the princess would wear, willingly and proudly, for everyday galaxy-saving.

Brass wire, serpentine beads, aluminum chain, and satin-y ribbon. The earring hooks are antiqued brass to eventually match the wire (which will get darker, but not that dark.) Length is 6.5" with the ribbon, 4" with the chain, and 3" with the rest. They're too light for my postal scale to accurately weigh, but each one weighs about 0.15 oz (or the weight of two pennies.)

Important note! This isn't a discussion on whether or not Carrie Fisher should have worn the costume in Return of the Jedi. There's also nothing wrong with you if you cosplay Slave Leia. Once again, the only point of the contest is to demonstrate that female characters can still look good without ridiculously skimpy costumes. (I only chose Slave Leia because it's arguably the most well-known skimpy costume in nerd culture.)

Such a great concept! I, too, wish there were more female costumes that weren't based on sex appeal.
