Born in 1927, Ruby was the son of Jonathan and Maria Brown. Ruby had an older brother who had died from SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) in 1915. Ruby lived his life as a closeted homosexual, often getting bullied at school and being called a "queer" and a "faggot" by other kids for his rather feminine characteristics. He was abused at home for this, as his father had beaten him and starved him for acting feminine. He would sometimes even lock Ruby up in his own bedroom for three to four days a week. Ruby's only safety was in the arms of his mother, who had tried to keep him away from his father, and who hadn't wanted to lose another child.
Ruby's mother committed suicide on December 7th, 1941, after learning her younger brother, Bert, had been killed in the bombings of Pearl Harbor. Maria had declared her brother her best friend, and she couldn't live without him. Maria took Ruby into the bedroom, as she had wanted to commit suicide and kill her son as well, so they both could be together in paradise, along with Bert and Ruby's older brother, Ben.
She had screamed, "Can't live without Bert and Ben, can't die without you!"
, before taking her own life.
Ruby had survived, but ended up watching his mother slit her own throat and bleed to death, and that day had haunted Ruby ever since.
After moving to Dulvey, Louisiana with his father, Ruby attended a new school, and met another boy named Ray Wilson. The two had much in common, and instantly fell in love with each other. Ray too was a closeted homosexual. Ruby and Ray began secretly dating, and would often meet in secret places, such as a park, an alleyway, et cetera. Ray had also given Ruby his nickname.
On May 26th, 1943, the moon had shone bright in the sky and the stars twinkled merrily. Ray and Ruby met up at a park, and began to perform sexual acts on each other. Soon, they were caught by Jonathan, who knocked Ray down with a solid punch to the face before dragging Ruby over to a nearby lake. Before pushing Ruby's head beneath the water, Jonathan insisted he did not want a "faggot" son, and then drowned his child, killing him instantly.
Ruby now lives the rest of eternity as a ghost roaming around Dulvey. He currently resides with couple Andre Strickland and Clancy Jarvis, having made contact with them when they used an Oujia board.
