Description
This is the cake I made for my Dad's 50th birthday. Since Asbach Uralt is the favorite drink of our family I wanted to make a cake that looks like the original bottle - well, kind of. It's made of layers of biscuit sponge and vanilla buttercream, covered in fondant. The details on the labels and seal are handpainted, the fondant is airbrushed. I did both for the first time and I learned a lot while doing the cake:
1. Never handpaint with undiluted color paste. It won't dry. Not even after 5 days.
2. Make sure there's absolutely no powder sugar on the fondant before airbrushing. Else it comes off, leaving ugly marks.
My Dad was impressed by the cake and he loved the taste. So did everyone else. Along with cake he got an originally sealed bottle of Asbach that is at least 55 years old. Sorry for the bad photo quality!
Completely made by me (Sundance).
Check out some of my other cakes!
