CSV Omaha by stargate525 CSV Omaha by stargate525
Ship I've been working on for a while. Pulled inspiration from a bunch of sources, mainly Mass Effect's SSV Normandy for the overall shape.

As usual, opinions, comments, scathing critique, all welcome. This isn't part of the ME universe, just based on the shape.

Make it bigger in typing, because I can't even read what you wrote.

Hit download. The text at the resolution it's designed to be read at is perfectly fine.

This is very interesting. I can definitely see the influence the Normandy had on the design. I myself am planning on making a deck plan for a Turian cruiser like this one:

Gorgeous ship, I love the attention to detail in these deck plans, any chance of seeing an exterior drawing of it someday?

Maybe, but not from me. I'm not as good of an artist as to be able to extrapolate the exterior of the thing.

This is one of the most detailed layouts I've seen and that in some ways I like this ship more than the Normandy.

also what did you use to make this?

Thanks so much for the compliment! I used GIMP, believe it or not, and a ton of work and patience.

I can believe it, most of the best maps and layouts come from GIMP. Did you use any plug-ins?

Nope. Just the stuff that came with the download. If you're curious on any particular section of her, as far as how I made it, I'd be happy to explain it. :)

Just wondering if you used anything special to maker her. I take it frome her size and crew that she's a light frigate.

She's actually a scout cruiser. 'Cruiser,' in this case, being a fleet role rather than a size designation. The Nova is a medium-sized frigate, for size comparison.

Sorry, the ship's name is the Donau, the class is the Nova.

Another wow!! My only comment is that IM not a big fan of corridors on the outer wall of any ship, but I dunno if theres any logic behind that or just some weird pet peeve. But Im glad you included some of the exterior shape so we can see the basic shape of the ship. Excellent work.

Thank you.

The issue with exterior hallways is that the majority of the ship's accessibility gets trashed from a single hull breach. For example, the Omaha will be crippled from anything that pierces armor on the middle deck, aft of the escape pods.

However, this was not designed with combat as a primary concern, so I didn't change it. The Donau, by comparison as a military vessel, has a ton of compartmentalization, and very few of the corridors follow the exterior contour of the ship.

ahh right, the hull breach! I guess my mind has been elsewhere lately.
So Im just wondering where this ship belongs... I dont see any transporter
room, but those look like escape pods on the top. Is this from some
existing universe or just something you made up?
Also Im curious about the shape of the ship overall. I cant quite tell
from the plans. Myself I guess I do this sort of thing kinda sketchy,
so the extra work is no problem.

No particular universe in mind. It could easily be retrofitted into a Star Trek 'verse, or Mass Effect.

Take the Normandy 2. Make the top more round. That's pretty much it.

You want something bigger than 4200 by 3300? Sorry, I can't help you; didn't think anyone would need something bigger.

That is a very nice and detailed design. I take it it's a frigate? But what does the 'C' stand for?

:iconstargate525:
stargate525 Featured By Owner Feb 21, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
It actually stands for Scout Cruiser (I assume you meant the CS designation). 'Cruiser,' in this sense, being a fleet role and not a weight classification.

I see. So is it unrelated to the ME universe or an unofficial part of the Systems' navy?

Life support, as well as the fuel cells, batteries, and HVAC is located on the main and lower decks, in that greyed-out area in the stern.
