Izar made her way to Darling's farm. Today was the day that she would learn about planting and tending to crops. She was so excited about learning about the crops that she had already planned on buying a bunch of different seeds.
"Hey Izar! Ready to plant some crops?" Darling asked as she came up to Izar.
Izar nodded. "I was born ready. Let's go!" She excitedly replied.
Both made their way to the fields. There were rows and rows of different types of crops. Darling handed Izar a basket.
"Now we are going to pick the fresh crops then plant new seeds after. Let's start with the potatoes." Darling instructed. She got down and pulled out a potato from the ground. She brushed off the dirt and placed it in her basket. Izar followed behind her and did the same. Soon their baskets were filled of potatoes.
Izar made her way to the next row and noticed that the tomatoes were smashed and some were missing. "Hey Darling. I think something or someone got into your tomatoes."
"Darn crows probably had a nice buffet." Darling looked over at her scarecrow. Perched on the scarecrow's arms were a line of crows. Izar looked back at Darling.
"They don't seem very scared of your scarecrow. Maybe we can make it scarier." Izar suggested. Darling thought to herself.
"Maybe. We can worry about that later. Let's finish up up here." She said.
Izar nodded and continued picking potatoes. Next they moved onto the carrots. Izar loved carrots. She couldn't help but take a nibble of one. It was so good that she gobbled the carrot up. Darling caught her munching on the carrot.
"You like the carrots? Good huh?" Darling asked.
Izar blushed in embarrassment. "Y-yeah they are delicious. Sorry I was getting hungry."
Darling shook her head. "No worries. How about we take a break? We can come back to this in a little bit." She headed off towards the barn. Izar followed after her.
They sat down underneath an old tree and munched on berries that Izar had brought from home. They talked about different berries and the different juices they could make. After their tummies were full, they relaxed for a bit longer before Izar noticed a dark cloud of crows swarming over the tomato patch.
"Oh no!" Izar got up and ran over to the tomatos. "Shoo shoo!" She waved her nubs trying to get the crows to fly away. They flew away but the damage was already done. The majority of the tomatoes were either gone or damaged.
"Darling, your tomatoes." Izar sadly looked at them.
Darling came and put a nub on Izar's shoulder. "It's okay. They were probably just as hungry as we were. No worries we'll fix that scarecrow up but first let's worry about the last of these crops. It's fixing to rain soon. It will be great for the new seeds." She smiled. This made Izar feel a lot better.
They spent the rest of their time picking potatoes, onions, carrots and the few tomatoes that were left over. Izar carried her baskets to the farmhouse. Darling was right behind her. "Now that we picked all the veggies, it's time for us to plant some more seeds. Are you ready?" She asked Izar.
Izar nodded. "Born ready." She said with a smile. Darling handed Izar packs of seeds. "I'll plant the potatoes and carrots."
"And I'll plant the onions and tomatoes" Darling said as they made their way back to the fields. Izar dug a small hole and dropped a seed into it before covering it back up and patting it down. She did this several times down the rows. She finished planting the potato seeds and started on the carrot seeds.
"You know it's fascinating that these vegetables grow from these itty bitty seeds." Izar pointed out.
Darling nodded in agreement. "It truly is amazing." They finished planting the seeds and proudly stared at their work. "The rain hasn't started. Would you like to go with me to the market and sell these veggies?" She asked.
Izar blinked. "You sell your veggies?"
Darling nodded. "Yep. I sell them for leaflets. I even buy other pacas veggies and sell them seeds. C'mon I'll show you." She made her way to the farm house and loaded up the vegetables in a cart. She made her way down the road toward the market.
Other pacas waved and smiled as they walked by. Darling stopped at her stand and started to set up her vegetables. Izar picked up a basket of vegetables and placed it on the stand.
"Come one! Come all! Come get your fresh veggies!" Darling announced. Within minutes they had a line of pacas waiting to purchase and sell vegetables. But they just didn't sell vegetables. Some of them had eggs, wool and even milk. Darling bought it all and sold seeds to the pacas. Izar was amazed at how many leaflets that they made. Izar looked and noticed her father in line. "Hey dad!" She called out. Maha looked up and waved. Once he made it to the front he took out his pouch.
"Hello Izar. Having fun with Darling?" Maha asked. Izar nodded.
"I'm having a great time! What can I do for you!?" Izar happily asked.
Maha pulled out a list. "I need to purchase some eggs and carrots for a carrot cake that I'm going to be baking today!"
"Maha's famous carrot cake? I hope you're going to be saving me a slice!?" Darling said.
"Actually Darling the carrot cake is a gift for you. For teaching Izar about the farm. Since you taught her about tending to Baas and Moffs we have been blessed with an abundance of milk and wool. Now you're teaching her about planting and she can use these skills for us back at home! I truly am proud of Izar. So I thank you!" Maha nodded and smiled at Izar.
Darling blushed. "Well thank you Maha. I greatly appreciate it!" She said with a smile.
Maha waved to them as he gathered his eggs and carrots. Izar smiled and waved bye to her father.
Darling started to pack up the empty baskets. "I think we did a good job today." She said as she loaded the baskets onto the cart. "Let's get back to the farm before the storm starts."
They made their way back to the farm. Just in time too as it started to sprinkle. Darling invited Izar inside to wait out the storm. Hours passed and Izar had finished the new scarecrow. She had made it scarier looking and hoped it would keep the crows away. Darling was taking a small nap in her rocking chair.
The rain had stopped and a rainbow was shining in the sky. A knock came from the door. Darling jumped awake and stood up to open the door. There stood Maha with the carrot cake in his arms. Darling invited him in.
"Izar! Your daddy is here to pick you up!" Darling called out.
Izar came into the front room and smiled. "Hey dad! Can I have a piece of carrot cake before we go?"
"Of course!" Maha exclaimed. Darling went to get a knife. She cut a slice for the three of them.
"This is the best carrot cake!" Darling excitedly said.
"Well it has the best carrots in it so I'm not surprised." Maha said.
They finished their cake and it was time for them to leave. "Izar wait. I have something for you." Darling said stopping her. She handed Izar some seeds. "Now you can plant your own vegetables. Hope to see you at the market soon."
"Thank you Darling! See you soon!" Izar said as she waved goodbye to her friend. The end.
