One of the two boys, the one whose house it is not, is poor and malnourished. He has had the same clothes on for three years and is still almost falling out of them as they were his father’s old brown suit that he used to wear when he was around. There are skins showing and scabs forming on arms, and his face is naked to the wind as he pushes through the air, back and forth, back and forth. The old leather belt he is so proud of wearing is folded neatly twice around his thinning waist, and even still is almost slightly too big. My home is just enough reach from the city to ignore the motors from nine to five highways and tiring roads. Often the only noise is from the pretty city sparrows that sing in the park below my feet. Inside my place tree silhouettes creep over the walls and onto the floors that I painted on a year ago. Old photographs are pinned to the acrylic black branches; each image comes from my heart and recounts beauty from moments of the past. All are innocent, like the sparrows that sing, and not tainted with befores and afters like so many adult recollections are.
