How do you 'see' or what inspires you to paint the subjects you do?

The older I get, the more these paintings do connect up to whatever it is I'm currently going through-- this painting, in particular, turned out to be an allegory for why I quit my day job! Those crayons on the floor ended up being more compelling than maybe they should've been; the girl is meant to be ourselves as artists, who do art for art's sake, and the creatures at the tables are the employee which I had become-- over-caffeinated and underslept, but the blooming flowers in their lapels meant that they could still respond to art, when art walked in the room...

I love the luminosity of the colours in this. :-) What usually takes place in the 'Eidolon Cafe?' Are the crayons perhaps representing a wheel of fortune?

Thank you!
Meh; this is kind of an allegory for the feelings I was experiencing when I wanted to quit my day job-- the circle of crayons are the protection an artist feels when surrounded by their tools of choice, and crayons are among our earliest talismans...

this is mesmerizing! i love how the layers go deeper and deeper into philosophical meaning, depending on how you look at it. of course no one but you will fully understand the piece, but each picture tells 1000 words, and this one has many many chapters too!

Thanks very much! I think this mostly amounted to an allegory of me quitting my day job to make more time for painting-- but if I had the opportunity to go back to that day job now, I'd do it in a New York minute! :lmao:

yeah, its hard to find paying work as an artist, im in that boat too:(
i guess the fact that your art has evolved so brilliantly must count toward life experience though, which is more important for the soul.

Security versus freedom is a life sentence conflict-- we'll just have to make the best of it...

Very surreal and even slightly disturbing! It's like a comment on child exploitation. Beautiful work!
