Getting used to the leg injury being healed took some time, but Arlo now can fully walk. The mare didn’t stick around. She had claimed there was more she needed to do. “Her loss.” Annie would remind the stallion. He looks over his two herdmates and fondly. Looking closer at the younger of the two he gets a bit of surprise on his face. “Wow, Cora! You got tall!” He would laugh. No longer can call her a foal, she is a full mare. Her markings showing up nicely, observing her closer he notices that her boy looks a tiny bit more muscular compared to both his own, and Annies. Must be all of the energy she had as a kid. “I know! Soon enough you wont be able to tell me apart from Annie!” Cora laughs. “We still look different, Coffee bean.” Annie muses, walking closer to the younger mare. Arlo walks up to Annie and bumps his nose against her side. “She can probably outrun you too I reckon. Just wait til all that energy she had runs out.” He’d say in a teasing tone. “Darn right I can! I’m

Walking around on his limp is a bit harder than he would like. Arlo can get used to it, not needing to use all four legs to move around, but it is the mornings that make it difficult. His mind reverts back to the “I’m not hurt” days. As he puts his foot on the ground at any point the pain rushes through him. These moments of time where he forgets the pain makes him realize it is getting harder and harder for him to heal. Annie makes due while her lead stallion is injured. She scouts the area they are in, makes sure Cora is eating, and making sure Arlo too is eating. Her ears swivel as Arlo gets his energy stored up, his attention being mostly focused on not stepping on his foot. As he limps forward to meet her Cora bounces over beyond him. “How ya doin there Aisleheart?” She would ask bouncing up. “You finally getting better?” Before he can reply she answers first. “Nope, don’t look like it. You really took a tumble, didn’t you?” “Sadly…” He answers, his ears laying flat and his

As autumn comes and goes, so too does some of the anxiety the two horses share. They’ve learned to rely on each other more during these past couple months. Arlo has started to grow out of his shell more with her. However, still no signs of too many more herds or herd members. The stallion would love for the two to have more members to make a ton of friends, to potentially get the herd settled as, what is in his mind, a fully fledged herd. Thinking back on it, Arlo knows that winter will be a bit of a hard time, and learning how to rely on Annie has definitely gotten his anxieties settled more so on this whole event. Maybe they don’t need much more, and that those other luxuries would just be nice to have. “It’s definitely starting to feel like winter.” Annie says, a bit of a shiver in her voice. “We should find better shelter than what we normally have.” Arlo laughs a bit at that last statement by his best friend. “You mean just out in the wild? I think we will find something to more

These past few weeks have been weird. A month has passed since Arlo and Cheshire have been together. Clear that it is still relatively hot but now the tell of Autumn is on its way. Things will be difficult for this just starting herd. Luckily it is just the winds taking a clear change in temperature. They still have time to do some of the necessary things to help ensure a safe rest of the year. Right now expanding a tiny amount would be a great help, sadly the two have not found anyone else yet. Maybe that is also a good thing. But Arlo can’t help but feel that more of everything could have just been executed a tiny bit more. On the bright side, Arlo has become extremely comfortable with his friend Cheshire. He’s lost his stutter with her, though he is positive it will come back as soon as they meet someone new. A true trusting bond has formed between the two in just a short amount of time. He can’t help but think maybe she would prefer being in someone else’s herd
