Wow, it's been awhile, two years now since I did anything here. Jeeze. Well, this is mostly so all my old friends here still know that I'm alive! (yay) And doing well. I've been working full time for the past two and a half years now, and started working conventions on a regular basis. I'm looking into becoming a professional lighting designer actually. I don't have much else to say at the moment really, I'm gonna be cleaning out my gallery a bit and doing some general shopkeeping here, but for now I need to head into work. If you wanna chat drop me a note or a comment, I'll get in tough. Mostly I use discord or Skype now a days.

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 9, 2013, 8:45 AM

Wow, haven't updated this in a while.

Anyway! Time for summer updates, what's coming and such.

First off, I'm 18 and graduated high school! Woo! Go me! I'll be heading off to Iowa State University in the fall, majoring in Meteorology.

Secondly, my new story, To Live Another Day, I'll be getting the first chapter of that typed up and posted ASAP.

Thirdly, I landed a job working on the factory floor at Whirlpool for the summer, so yay money and goodbye free time! XD

Fourthly, I'm going to BronyCon with a group of guys from here in Cedar Rapids! If you're going too, drop me a line and I'll find you there :P

Lastly, if any of you are waiting on updates to Clearer Skies, don't worry! I haven't abandoned it, just need to rethink where I'm going with it. It will be finished.

Well, that's all for now!

Anyway, Obama has won re-election. My viewpoint: They both suck, but Obama sucks slightly less cause he's not a complete idiot when it comes to educational reform.

Bleeding Blue: A Reflection on 4 Years of Marching

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 7, 2012, 1:37 AM

Bleeding Blue: A Reflection on 4 Years of Marching in the Band of Blue
By: TicTac/Spoofy/spw6
:iconbandofblueplz:

As I sit here at my desk, half asleep, I find myself thinking back all the way to four years ago, doing preliminary practices for the Holiday Bowl Parade and Halftime Performance.  That marked the start of my high school marching career, and this weekend marks the end of it.  Once I lead the band off the field at Valley, (and yes, I'm in the front of the line to exit off) I'm done with competitions forever, as far as I know anyway.

With that being said, I'll be going over the great and the not so great experiences of my four years of marching. Read and enjoy.

Freshman Year, 2009: San Diego Trip
~This was my very first year marching, and DAMN it was cold during the practices for the parade. Ever marched in 10F, while snowing, on an iced-over track? Yeah, didn't think so :P

~Quote from some random Mexican at the beach: "Make sure to get the sand out of your ass too."

~THE HOLY MOOTOWEL from Seaworld.

~The actual parade was AWESOME. We placed second, woo!

Sophomore Year, 2010: Fiddler on the Roof
~First thing: BOTTLE DANCE!

~My first year marching on the field with the BoB. Section leader: Ben "Trumpet Jesus" Castle. Assistant Section Leader: Adam Houk.

~This show was by far the most fun, both marching-wise and musically.

~Placed 2nd at Bands Across the Prairie.

~Placed 7th at Valleyfest.

Junior Year, 2011: West Side Story & Florida Trip
~Dear god, America had the most messed up timing ever. Freaking 6:8 time, and we had to step off with our RIGHT foot twice >.> (DA da da DA da da DA DA DA)

~Section Leader: Adam Houk. Unofficial Assistant Section Leader: Andrew Haring

~This show was by far the most challenging both musically and marching-wise, but still really fun.

~This was the year that the trumpet section had a ton of internal fighting and drama going on, resulting in one of our best players to quit the week of Valley. I was pretty pissed to say the least.

~Placed 1st at the Mt. Pleasant Invitational.

~Placed 9th at Valleyfest.

Senior Year, 2012: This New World & Ireland Trip
~My last year. It's a sad moment when you step off the field at Valley, and realize that it's over. No more competitions (unless I make a drum corps), and really it's the end of the season. I only get to put on that uniform 3 more times.

~Section Leader: Andrew Haring. 2nd Trumpet Section Leader & Unofficial Assistant Section Leader: Jonathan Nefzger. 3rd Trumpet Section Leader: Sean Ely.

~I had so much fun this year. Our section really came together and bonded, and by the end of it all, we were all like family. By far the best season ever.

~Going to freaking DUBLIN, IRELAND AND MARCHING THE ST. PATRICKS DAY PARADE!

~Placed 3rd at the Mt. Pleasant Invitational.

~Placed 6th at Valleyfest.

After looking back over my high school marching career, I've made some really great friends, and learned just how to yell at people to get them to do things.
Marching band isn't really about all the competitions, though those are really fun, but it's about making friends and having a damn good time while marching your feet off. I'm going to miss walking down to Kingston every morning for early bird rehearsals, and I'm going to miss the taste of the gross spit-valve oil mixture that pools in your mouthpiece as you play. But what I'm going to miss the most is all the great times I've had, and all the great friends I've made, not to mention Mr. Driskel's EPIC speeches.

Feet! TOGETHER!
Stomach! IN!
Chest! OUT!
Shoulders! BACK!
Chins! UP!
Eyes! WITH PRIDE!
Eyes! WITH PRIDE!
Band of! BLUE!

Pre-Weekend Performances and Competitions

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 5, 2012, 3:56 AM

Well, this is it. My senior year in high school, and, as far as I know, my very last competitions. Damn.

This friday (today) we have a game against Washington and perform during halftime as per usual. On Saturday we have 2 competitions, State Contest and Valleyfest.  Then we have the Indoor (It's outside this year) Marching Band Classic on Monday, which is an exhibition performance for all the schools in our area.

So yeah, it's a busy fucking weekend.

MT. PLEASANT INVITATIONAL: Post-Competition

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 16, 2012, 4:13 AM

So we placed third last night at our competition, falling from our previous position of first.  Davenport Central won, and they're a BoA band, so I kinda expected them too anyway. Ah well, NO EARLY BIRD MONDAY! WOOOO!

Now, I must go to work.

GAME DAY 2: Post-Performance + DEER

Journal Entry: Fri Sep 14, 2012, 11:08 PM

So, we just had our 2nd performance at a home game today, woo! We've got out first competition tomorrow, which we won last year, so I'm hoping that turns out well.
After the game, me and a couple friends went out to the old abandoned animal shelter and grilled out for an hour or two. We had a great time, and had some pretty damn good hot dogs.

Now, here's the bad news. On my way back, I was going about 70MPH down Highway 30, and a deer, which the cop said was a 4-point buck (No idea what that means) runs out in front of me. Needless to say, I need a new car >.>
For all of you wondering, yes I am fine, yes my car is probably totaled, and yes, I pwned the SHIT out of that deer XD.

Signing off and on the hunt for a new car, ~TicTac

Vertibucks and You

Journal Entry: Fri Sep 7, 2012, 3:36 PM

Vertibucks and You: A Brief Report on Vertibuck Operations
Lieutenant TicTac, EAF
June 15th, 2077

The V-2 Vertibuck, workhorse of the Equestrian Air Force.  Commonly referred to as 'Verts' by their pilots, these aircraft have become an integral part of the EAF, owing to their versatility and ruggedness.  This report will detail on three key aspects of the Vertibuck: variants, crew, and specifications.

Variants

CV-2 Transport
The CV-2 Vertibuck is the cargo and transport variant, being able to transport troops and supplies around quickly.  The back of the Vertibuck lowers down into a ramp, providing access to the cargo hold.  The cargo hold can seat up to 32 troops, or hold up to 20,000 pounds of cargo.  The cockpit has a large plexiglass windshield, providing a wide field of view for the two pilots.  They stand in front of a firewall, separating them from the cargo area.

AV-2 Gunship
The AV-2 Vertibuck is the most commonly seen, as well as the smallest Vertibuck variant.  This model has no rear ramp, but rather two side doors leading into a small crew area, which can seat up to four.  The two pilots stand in front of a firewall, and only have a single line of plexiglass panels for the windshield, providing extra protection but less visibility.

A/CV-2 Special Operations
The A/CV-2 Vertibuck is a combination of the Gunship and Transport variants, and is used for special operations roles.  Like the transports, they have a back ramp, which leads into a small cargo bay that can seat eight troops, or hold 5,000 pounds of cargo.  Like the other two, the pilots stand in front of a firewall, and have a larger plexiglass windshield, similar to the transports.

Flying the Vertibuck

Crew Assignments
All three Vertibuck variants have a crew of two, a pilot, and a co-pilot.  Both are responsible for flying the aircraft and each has additional roles of their own.  The pilot is generally responsible for firing the Vertibuck's weapons, while the co-pilot is responsible for handling the defensive countermeasures and navigation.

Controls
All pegasi who enlist in the EAF are implanted with a small interface chip in their wings, which allows them to control the Vertibuck, or any other EAF aircraft, by simply flying in place and concentrating on where you want to go.  The Vertibucks do not have the traditional interface cage, but rather the interface is mounted into the firewall behind the pilots.  It takes immense concentration to keep a Vertibuck under control as a result, but the pilots are masters at it.  This configuration also requires the addition of a control panel and HUD to display flight information to the pilots.
