Sometimes people's designs look the same, but it's most of the time a coincidence or an inspiration. ( ESPECIALLY those Blue fans who inspire their characters off of her's. Blue really doesn't care, yet other people need to be white knights and go "OMG U STOLE!!!11!1" )
there's only so much you can do with certain designs, and no one can "own" certain colour scheme, hair style, post, and etc.

and especially if a popular artist's character is "stolen," it'll be kind of obvious because everyone knows that the characters are the same.
Beides, if someone does "steal" a character's design, why is it a big deal? You can still keep your character, and everyone knows that the other person just took your design so who cares if they're similar??? Why does it need to turn into a huge shitfest over a character??

Idk I just feel like it's ridiculous to go flame someone because their character looks the same.

I really hope I didn't sound mean ; n ; I know the stamps I linked were kind of obnoxious, but the descriptions they had were the point I was trying to make.
I hope I haven't offended you or anything, I just kind of wanted to say this because I, personally, don't get bothered when someone's fursie looks the same as mine, hahaha

First off...I am not making a "shitfest" over it ._. Nor am I whining. It's just the right thing to do...
Why PURPOSELY copy someone else's design instead of just drawing that character?
Why claim it as your own when someone else obviously created it? Why not just make "fan art" of the character instead of stealing it? You don't need to "own" a design to draw it. Would you really not find it annoying if someone referenced off your art and designs? Because I know I do, Blue may not but it's more than likely she made that decision because it's an easier path having to deal with so many watchers. (I respect her decision, if that's her preference it doesn't mean it's okay with every other artist though.)
Why deliberately reference off a design? I'm not saying that I think people are personally "trying to steal my OCs" (like in the stamp you linked), but I made it a STAMP so everyone could use, because no one should be stealing other people's designs. But of course yes there's many coincidences with character designs; especially with more simple characters. As a reminder; "OC" meaning Original Character. No longer original if people purposely copy its aspects.

Like in my stamp, "If you like someone's design, don't steal it. Make Fanart instead." simply because, it's just the right thing to do.
I'm also not trying to come off as obnoxious, but this is just my explanation and defense for the stamp. If you personally wouldnt get offended if someone had a fursona identical to yours, then I suppose that's your preference. ouo But most artists, wouldn't appreciate it as much or be flattered by the idea. So, thats why this stamp was born.
If you don't agree, that's cool and fine. Considering your signature I'm guessing you wouldn't xD; "I know, I should "respect your opinion," but it's hard because you're a fucking idiot. (◕‿◕✿)"

I dont know, I'm sorry!! I really wasn't trying to be mean to you, I just wanted to show you my point of view on how I feel about that kind of stuff
ahhhh I really hope I wasn't being mean or anything ///

oh no!! I wasn't saying that YOU were making a shitfest / whining over it; I've been attacked by people because one of my designs looked like someone elses, and it just turned into a huge war over practically nothing -- and I really wasn't trying to copy them. It was just a coincidence, yet I still get told that I deserve to die and that I should commit suicide over a character's design. like???/ that's kind of crossing the line right???
I feel like it shouldn't be that big of a deal when someone's character looks the same as someone else's, because then that could even send people on the verge of quitting deviantart because people won't leave them alone. What I don't like is when people bully other's to try to make them change their character because they were "copying." Or, if you really want to confront them about it and really uncomfortable with your characters looking the same, you can just politely ask them to change it and tell them that you're really uncomfortable / don't like your characters looking the same.

It's just that it would be kind of obvious if someone stole your design, and not saying anything would be better because all of your +watchers would know already that they stole.
sometimes when people reference / inspire their characters off of your's it just means that they really liked that you had on your character and wanted to add it to their's!!!
I know it can get really irritating when people copy / just want to make it look the same as your's, but, most of the time there isn't really anything we can do about it..

ahh, I hope I made sense. It's just something that happened to me and I felt like it didn't need to turn into what it did.

( my siggie was mostly just meant to be a joke. ; u ; hahaha, I'm sorry that I came off mean right there, >///< I really DO respect your opinion and know where you're coming from. )

I totally understand what you're saying. No one should ever tell someone to kill themselves, over anything.
Especially something like character designs w hat
I have to constantly remind myself that most people on here are 11-14 year olds who don't really know what they're saying half the time. x'D
But it's incredibly crossing the line to tell someone to go to death row in ANY SITUATION. Comments like that- even if just on the internet, build up in a person's mind, could lead to the loss of a life..
I truly do not appreciate "white nights" or swamps of watchers defending an artist, for the artist can completely handle it themselves (and politely like you said!). Mainly gives dA a bad name, because it looks immature and people may give off opinions the original artist doesn't even believe in. I'm sorry that happened to you, I remember once maybe 3 years ago I made a white bear adoptable with some brown spots around it, and I was almost completely BANNED and hated by many because they claimed I stole HinaUchi's design of her fursona. Her sister mocked me by drawing MY fursona and claiming it as her own and making me look pathetic, of course sending many "white nights" my way when it was completely unintentional. That is when it gets out of hand, so I totally get what you're saying man.
With the design thing though, many people will imitate designs because they like them yes? But personally I don't find that flattering or as a form of a compliment, actually almost insulting to take other's ideas because it deteriorates the original idea and makes it worth less (uniquely).
But yeahh
I'm not mad or anything man dont worry omg<3 and to respond to this and your second comment: don't apologize, I'm glad we could talk about it, so there's no more confusion. ;u; You didn't come off as rude aahh
seadoq Featured By Owner Jan 24, 2014
exactly! and you really didn't deserve that at all -- no one does, even if they are stealing.
it gives the entire furry fandom a bad name, too. It's just stupid and childish to get so angry and stuff over two character's being the same.

and yes, I do understand, because you worked pretty hard on those designs and it was meant to be unique. I'm just referring to when it's a coincidence, hahaha

phew! ; v ; I thought you were for a second there and I didnt want you to not like me because you inspire me like a lot and stuff you know, haahha
I'm glad, too!! ♥

It's not even funny how many Blue rip offs there are.
But people get away with it because then they complain "but all cartoon corgis are like this, just because it's a corgi doesn't mean it's Blue," and flame you if you challenge them.
SpunkyRacoon Featured By Owner Jul 29, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Exactly, even if they just /absolutely need/ a corgi OC, there's millions of other ways to design one other than Blue's fursona.
Chedtim Featured By Owner Jul 29, 2013  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Totally agree :)
