My name is Adam Ferguson, and I am a visual artist from Salem, Virginia.
As an artist, I draw my own summations of what I discern, and I formulate those observations as uniquely my own– creating a visage of what I imagine in my artwork. I create fantastical work– work that is derived from a more imaginative, mythological realm – as I seek to both come to a generalized understanding of my own rationale and to further my artistic vision.
My work utilizes and is inspired by imagery from the Neoclassical and Romantic eras of painting. I aim to speak on the themes of transformation, escapism, the concept of the sublime, adventure/exploration, and man’s relationship with nature.
My work primarily resides in oil paintings, pixel art, digital paintings, and traditional drawings, and my subject manner is fundamentally landscape and figurative. I am endeared by the idea of capturing moments—an emotive facial expression, a whimsical pose, a certain contortion of the body—these instances strike me as momentous, and with my artwork I aim to represent these instants with substantial accuracy. I am fascinated with the figure, and its innate ability to represent an endless array of palpable emotion. In my illustrations, I indulge in the creation of a variety of subject matter, including vast landscapes, dark fantasy, and mythology.
